As a renewable resource, biomass is known as the fourth largest energy material in the world, which is of great significance to the requirements of green chemistry and sustainable development put forward in today’s society.Chitin biomass is the most abundant natural nitrogenous polysaccharide in the world. Its development and utilization provide a new green way for the production of valuable chemical products. At present, chitin biomass has broad development and utilization prospects, and has been used in various fields such as medicine, agriculture and cosmetics, due to its abundant resources, low price, renewable and biodegradable advantages. However, the research on the conversion of chitin biomass into other high value-added platform chemicals is still relatively in the initial stage.Chitin biomass has been converted into a variety of platform compounds, such as3-acetamido-5-acetylfuran(3A5AF),5-hydroxymethylfurfural,levulinic acid,etc.3A5 AF retains the valuable nitrogen element in the chitin biomass, and is an important platform compound, which has attracted our attention. This study focused on the process of converting the chitin monomer N-acetylglucosamine(NAG)into high value-added compound 3A5 AF.In this paper,a series of ethanolamine ionic liquids(EAILs)and choline chloride deep eutectic solvents were designed and used as catalysts for NAG conversion.EAILs showed good catalytic performance during NAG conversion to 3A5 AF.Under optimal conditions, the yield of 3A5 AF reached62.01% when triethanolamine hydrochloride([TEA]Cl)ionic liquid was used as catalyst, boric acid as promoter, and N,N-Dimethylacetamide(DMA)as solvent. Then we investigated the reusability of ionic liquid and boric acid, and the catalytic system still has good catalytic activity after 5 cycles of use.In addition, the kinetic analysis of the reaction process was carried out by means of HPLC-MS,and the possible reaction mechanism of the process was proposed. There are few reports on the application of deep eutectic solvents as catalysts in the degradation of chitin biomass. In this study, deep eutectic solvents were used as catalysts for the degradation of chitin biomass. The choline chloride deep eutectic solvents synthesized in this paper played a good catalytic role in the conversion of NAG to 3A5 AF.When using choline chloride/chloroacetic acid(1:1)as catalyst, boric acid and calcium chloride as additive and DMA as solvent, the yield of 3A5 AF was as high as 59.16% at 180℃ for 60 min, which opened a new way for chitin degradation.
