Yunnan Tengchong shadow puppet is a traditional folk art with a history of more than500 years.It was introduced into Tengchong from the Central Plains during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty.Since then,it has spread widely in western Yunnan and has developed its unique Tengyue style.By analyzing the living environment,the craftsmanship,and the social function of Tengchong shadow puppet,this article aims at exploring artistic characteristics and aesthetic connotations of the shadow puppet and ultimately proposes a reasonable trajectory for its subsequent developments.The author takes the Liujiazhai Theater in Gudong Town,Tengchong as the main inspection object,and summarizes the current development status,production processes and process characteristics of Tengchong shadow through the collection of various art materials,field trips,questionnaires,and etc.Additionally,the artistic characteristics of Tengchong shadow puppet is compared,analyzed,summarized,and then reperformed in order to deeply excavate the aesthetic value and practical significance of Tenchong shadow puppet.While discussing the characteristics and aesthetic value of Tengchong shadow puppet,this paper not only analyzes the evolution of shadow puppet itself,searches for its audience,but also makes a reasonable prospect of its potential social function,aiming to explore the previous cultural development path and current survival status of shadow puppet.Finally,a cultural and creative industry road is put forward to help this traditional industry recover from decline.
