One of the purposes of school mental health education is to help students improve their emotional control ability and adaptive ability.A high level of emotional intelligence can help students deal with interpersonal relationship and get along with themselves better.Learning adaptation is an important part of junior high school students’ social adaptation,which has an important impact on their study and life.This study explores the current situation and relationship between Ability-based emotional intelligence and Learning adaptability of middle school students,designs and implements targeted group counseling programs,and promotes their Ability-based emotional intelligence and Learning adaptability.In this study,800 junior middle school students from a middle school in Huaibei City,Anhui Province were investigated with the Emotional Intelligence Scale and Learning Adaptation Scale.This paper measures and analyzes the current situation and relationship between the Ability-based emotional intelligence and Learning adaptability of middle school students,and designs the group guidance course of Ability-based emotional intelligence.Subsequently,60 subjects were randomly selected,including 30 experimental subjects and 30 reference subjects,for an 8-week group counseling intervention.The results showed that:First,middle school students’ Ability-based emotional intelligence is generally at a medium level,with unbalanced development in various dimensions.Among them,the score of Emotion perception dimension is the highest,and the score of Emotion management dimension is the lowest.In terms of demographic variables,the group with high educational level of parents has a relatively higher level of Ability-based emotional intelligence,and the urban students have a significant advantage over the non-urban students,but there is no significant difference in whether the only child,gender,family relationship and grade.Second,the overall Learning adaptability of middle school students is at a medium level,but the development of various dimensions is unbalanced,with the lowest score of Learning satisfaction and the highest score of Learning motivation.There are significant differences in the origin of students,parents’ educational level and grade,but there are no significant differences in the only child,gender and family relationship.Third,there is a moderate positive correlation between Ability-based emotional intelligence and Learning adaptability.Ability-based emotional intelligence can positively predict Learning adaptability,and Learning adaptability can be improved by enhancing Ability-based emotional intelligence.Fourthly,Group counseling combined the reality and the theory of Ability-based emotional intelligence,Group dynamics,Interpersonal communication theory,and designed the intervention program centering on Ability-based emotional intelligence.The intervention effectively improved the Ability-based emotional intelligence and Learning adaptability of junior high school students.
