Behavioral Motivation Of Children’s Upward Economic Support In Urban And Rural "Network Families" ——Based On Empirical Analysis Of CHARLS2018 Data

Family intergenerational economic support as an important support of family pension and the important embodiment of inter-generational relations,deepening in aging,family endowment function faces a challenge under the background of the era of continuous caused the attention of scholars both at home and abroad,the research of previous support for intergenerational economic motivation mainly concentrated on the altruistic motives,exchange,motivation and demonstrate motivation.Moreover,most studies take the trunk family as the carrier to explore the influence of a certain support motivation on the pension behavior of children in urban or rural areas and the life happiness of parents,but there are relatively few comprehensive and urban-rural comparative studies on the intergenerational economic support motivation of children in "network families".Therefore,from the perspective of urban and rural comparative analysis,this paper systematically studies the influence of different generations’ economic support motivation on the upward economic support behavior of the offspring in the "network family".Based on the data of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study（CHARLS2018）,this paper used binomial Logit regression and Tobit regression model to analyze the effects of altruism motivation,exchange motivation and demonstration motivation on the participation and scale of child upward economic support in online families.The "network family" in this paper mainly refers to the family unit union which is based on the paternal blood relationship,linked by the parental family,and composed of the independent parental family and the offspring family（daughter family or son family）,and also includes the family members of the grandparents,fathers and children.The results show that children’s participation in and scale of upward economic support are affected by altruism motivation,exchange motivation and demonstration motivation at the same time in urban and rural "network families".There is diversity in the motivation of parental support,but the specific variables of support motivation are different.In terms of altruistic motivation,the age of fathers has a significant positive effect on the upward economic support of urban and rural children,but the upward economic support of rural children has a significant difference on the gender characteristics of fathers,that is,rural children are more inclined to provide more economic support to their mothers than their fathers.In terms of exchange motivation,the support exchange of urban children is more focused on the exchange of economic resources,while the support exchange of rural children takes into account the exchange of economy,labor and emotion.This result may be related to the difference between urban and rural fertility policies and the difference in the number of children.At the level of demonstration motivation,the upward economic support of rural children is positively influenced by both vertical and horizontal demonstration of multigenerational family members,that is,parents’ supporting behavior and siblings’ supporting behavior in multigenerational families have a significant positive effect on children’s economic support behavior.However,the horizontal demonstration effect of siblings was only observed among urban children,and the vertical demonstration effect between generations was not significant.This result may be associated with the urbanrural dual economic development pattern,the awakening of individual consciousness,and economic rationality.In addition,through the in-depth analysis of the demonstration motivation found that urban and rural children of economic support of the parents’ behavior of gender roles between children,daughter and son to share the economic support of parents and daughter number increase significantly better than the positive effects of a son,and explain the present family "network" in the children of parents’ support is actively sharing behavior,He shows a positive ethic of support.The above results indicate that the children’s upward financial support behavior in urban and rural "network families" is affected by multiple support motivations,but there are also significant differences in motivation and active support consciousness.The results enrich the research on the motivation of intergenerational economic support,reveal the supporting behavior within the "network family",clarify the differences in the motivation of supporting the children in urban and rural areas,which is conducive to better stimulate the vitality of family pension,improve China’s pension system,and better deal with various social problems caused by the increasing aging.
