Objective:To use a flossband combined with plyometric training to intervene in patients with patellofemoral joint pain to understand the effects on their pain level, functional well-being,and mental psychology, for purpose of farther promote the conservative treatment plan for patellofemoral joint pain and provide a theoretical basis for the application and research of the flossband technique.Methods:Thirty-four patients with patellofemoral arthralgia were recruited and randomly be spanided into 2 sets(17 in each set,no obvious difference in baseline indexes before the experiment),the control group(CG group, plyometric training)and the experimental group(EG group, flossband combined with plyometric training),respectively.intervention protocol for CG group:(1)drawing exercises: quadriceps, iliotibial bundle, hamstrings and triceps surae were stretched, continuous stretching of each part 30 s,repeated 3 times.(2)Resistance training of hip abductors, external rotators and posterior extensors using elastic bands,3 sets of 10 times for every a cluster of muscle, with the intensity of the elastic band chose on the basis of the patient’s power to finish 10 times of the sports.(3)Quadriceps muscle strength training using elastic bands, deep squat against the wall, resistance squat, seated resistance knee extension,3 sets of 10 repetitions for each movement, with the strength of the elastic band selected according to the patient’s competence to finish 10 times of the sports. The process of each repetition was 2s centrifugal,1s isometric,2s centripetal and 1s rest;rest was approximately 90 s between each set of 10 repetitions.EG group protocol: The distraction exercises and hip muscle strength training sites and methods were the same as the CG group. For the quadriceps muscle training, the flossband was wrapped first, and then the elastic band was used for resistance training;the flossband was removed quickly after each set of training, and then the band was rewrapped for training after rest.6 weeks. The subjects in the CG and EG sets were assessed before and after 6 weeks of therapy utilizing the visual analog scale(VAS),Kujala Anterior Knee Pain Scale(AKPS),German Isomed 2000 isometric muscle strength testing system, and Hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS),respectively.SPSS was used for statistical analysis.Pared-samples t-test was used in compare within groups, and independent samples t-test was used in comparison among groups, with P<0.05 indicating significant differences and P<0.01 indicating highly significant differences.Results:(1)Pain assessment:(1)Compared with the pre-intervention period, there was an overall highly significant reduction in VAS scores in both groups of subjects after the intervention(P<0.01).The VAS scores in the EG group were generally lower than those in the CG group after the intervention, and the difference was statistical significance(P <0.05).(2)Patellofemoral joint function assessment:(1)The AKPS scores of subjects in both groups were overall very significantly higher after the intervention compared with those before the intervention(P<0.01).(2)The AKPS scores in the EG group were generally higher than those in the CG group after the intervention, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).(3)Isometric muscle strength assessment: Compared with the pre-intervention period, the relative peak moments and maximum work done by the hip abductor group, hip posterior extensor group, and knee extensor group were significantly higher overall in the subjects of the 2 groups after the intervention(P<0.05),but there was no prominent difference in both groups(P>0.05).(4)Psycho-psychological assessment:(1)Compared with the pre-intervention period, the anxiety scores of subjects in both groups were significantly lower after the intervention(P<0.05).(2)In depression scores of the CG group after the intervention is no distinct contrast with the before the intervention(P>0.05);there was a significant decrease in depression scores in the EG group compared with that before the intervention(P<0.05).(3)In hospital anxiety and depression scale of two groups after the intervention were no obvious variation(P>0.05),whereas the EG group showed a more significant trend of reduction.Conclusions:(1)After 6 weeks of intervention, both flossband combined with plyometric training and simple plyometric training showed significant improvements in pain, patellofemoral joint function and muscle strength in patients with patellofemoral joint pain, and the flossband combined with plyometric training program was more advantageous in improving the pain degree and patellofemoral joint function for patients with patellofemoral joint pain in some degree compared with the simple plyometric training program.(2)Compared with muscle strength training alone, fascia compression band combined with muscle strength training also has advantages in improving the anxiety state of patients with patellofemoral joint pain.
