In the context of increasing demand for social work in society, social work has a broad market in China and is an industry that is being supported by the state and society and is developing vigorously. However, the number of people engaged in social work is far below the national policy expectations, and the number of professional social workers does not meet the specific requirements of the national plan. Why is social work still unable to attract a sufficient number of professionals to enter with the support of the state? As a profession that emphasizes professionalism, its development is affected by the surrounding macro-environment,and it is recognized that it has a very important impact on the career development and the construction of the social work talent team. Therefore, from the perspective of Recognition theory, this article discusses the factors of recognition and disrespect in the current working environment of social workers and their influence on social workers’ career choices. This research divides the recognition subjects faced by social workers into three dimensions: the recognition of government, social recognition, and self-recognition.The study found that the status of recognition and disrespect for social workers is: the recognition of government is in a state of separation;social recognition requires the government fight together with social work groups;the degree of self-recognition is higher than the above two types of recognition, but there is still space for improvement.Based on the status quo of recognition of social work, the analysis concludes that the experience of disrespect and the experience of recognition jointly promote social workers to strive for recognition through career choices.Among them, the experience of disrespect encourages social workers to make a career choice to leave the industry.Because of their professional status, social workers encounter disrespect experiences such as form disrespect, independent qualification disrespect, appeal disrespect, value disrespect, identity disrespect.Social workers have lost their self-esteem,self-confidence,and self-love to engage in the profession in the experience of disrespect, and they have to put another career choice on the agenda. At the same time, acknowledgment of experience facilitates social workers to stick to their career choices in the social work industry. The reason why social workers are firm in their career choices and willing to stay in the social work industry is because they recognize the professional identity of social work, and second, because the strong recognition atmosphere within the group strengthens their determination to engage in and develop social work. But in the recognition experience, there are also problems: social workers with professional backgrounds have higher professional pursuits in social work, and social workers with non-professional backgrounds are more likely to take action to gain recognition. They will choose to leave institutions or leave the industry to fight against "disrespect". |
