| In recent years,parents’ involvement has attracted more and more attention from researchers,schools and parents.There are many aspects of parental involvement in children’s education.Among them,Chinese parents pay special attention to their children’s homework.In recent years,there are also frequent revelations about all kinds of things that happen when parents involvement in their children’s homework.These things can’t help but make people reflect.Why does it bother parents to get involved in their children’s homework? The reason is that parents do not take an effective way to involve in homework.Effective involvement in homework can promote children’s academic improvement,but ineffective involvement in homework can lead to inharmonious family relation,parent-child relationship tension and other problems.Based on this,the purpose of this study is to explore the effective ways of parental involvement in homework in middle grades children of primary school,and to explore the relationship between parental involvement in homework and academic self-efficacy and academic engagement.Study 1: This study adopts qualitative research method to explore the effective dimensions of parent involvement in homework.The parents of 22 students with good academic performance are selected as the interviewees to understand their involvement in homework from three aspects of cognition,emotion and behavior.Through the qualitative analysis of the interview materials,the common characteristics of these parents are summarized.The results show that effective parental involvement in homework consists of seven dimensions: cultivating responsibility,cultivating study habits,guiding homework,maintaining positive emotions,controlling negative emotions,parent-child communication,and home-school communication.Study 2: In order to further verify whether the results of qualitative research are reasonable and effective,and provide a powerful investigation tool for subsequent empirical studies,on the basis of qualitative research results,this study will further design the questionnaire of parental involvement in homework.In this study,the questionnaire items are obtained from three ways and tested.The final results show that the reliability and validity of the questionnaire are good and meet the psychological measurement standards.By analyzing the relationship between parental involvement in homework and students’ performance,the overall results show that the better parent perform in the questionnaire,the better students’ academic performance will be,which proves the validity of qualitative research results.Study 3: In order to understand the current situation of Mid-Grade Pupils’ parental involvement in homework in different demographic variables(gender,grade,the only child or not,main participant in homework)and the relationship between parental involvement and academic self-efficacy,academic engagement,in this study,705 third and fourth grade students are investigated by questionnaire.The results show that :(1)There are differences in the performance of parents in the third and fourth grade of primary school in the seven dimensions.The post-test results show that there is no difference between the guidance of homework and the control of negative emotions,and there is difference between other dimensions.In terms of gender,there is no difference in the total score of parents’ involvement in homework and in each dimension.In the grade,there are only difference in maintaining the positive emotion dimension and the score of the fourth grade parents was significantly higher than that of the third grade parents.There are no difference between the total score of parental involvement in homework and other dimensions.In the aspect of the only child or not,there are differences in the dimensions of cultivating study habits,guiding homework,parent-child communication and the total score of parents’ involvement in homework,but no difference in other dimensions.The only child’s parents score significantly higher than the non only child’s parents in the three dimensions of cultivating study habits,guiding homework,parent-child communication and the total score of questionnaire.In the main participants of homework,there is no difference in the total score and each dimension of parental involvement in homework.(2)In addition to the fact that the correlation between cultivating responsibility and learning behavioral efficacy has not reached a significant level,there is a significant positive correlation between parental involvement in homework and its various dimensions,academic self-efficacy and academic engagement.(3)Parental involvement in homework can significantly predict academic self-efficacy and academic engagement,and parental involvement in homework and academic self-efficacy can predict academic engagement in combination.Academic self-efficacy mediates between parental involvement in homework and academic engagement. |
