Abstract/Summary:
The development and cultivation of preschool children’s perseverance are of great value and significance to the formation of their learning quality,the development of their self-control ability and the cultivation of their volitional quality.Preschool children’s perseverance is an important part of learning quality.Relevant studies at home and abroad have shown that preschool children’s perseverance includes the ability of concentration,the ability of anti-interference and the ability to cope with setbacks,etc.Recent studies on preschool children’s perseverance expressed that the perseverance level of preschool children in China is not optimistic.With the development of science and technology,mobile terminals are affecting people and even preschool children’s lives.Preschool Children’s use of mobile terminals triggered controversy among many scholars.The claims of the relations between preschool children’s perseverance and their use of mobile terminals are mostly based on people’s speculations and concerns,which means that there is no rigorous data nor surveys to support them.This project is aimed at understanding preschool children’s perseverance development in the new digital media environment through questionnaires,experiments and other scientific methods,and to explore whether there is a correlation between the use frequency of mobile terminals and preschool children’s perseverance development.In this study,144 senior class(4-5-year-old)preschool children from X kindergarten in Xiamen were selected as research objects.Firstly,we distributed questionnaires on the frequency of these kids’ use of mobile terminals to their parents.Through effective collection of questionnaires and data management,we extracted information of the time length,frequency and family attitude of the mobile terminals used by these children.Secondly,based on the results of the survey,we designated those who used mobile terminals frequently as the high frequency group,and those who did not as the low frequency group.The high frequency group and the low frequency group were respectively measured for perseverance level,to investigate whether there was a correlation between high frequency mobile terminal usage and preschool children’s perseverance development.The research indicates:1.There is a tendency of staring to use mobile terminals since a very young age among the preschool children of senior classes.Their using mobile terminals during the weekdays is restrained,mostly between 1 to 2 times a day,and the average time spent on that is within 30 minutes.However,the use frequency during holidays is obviously higher than that of the weekdays: Most preschool children use mobile terminals for a long time,about 30-180 minutes per day,which goes beyond the safe usage time slot.Therefore,there exists a phenomenon of frequently using mobile terminals among preschool children of senior classes.2.In the three dimensions of the experimental measurement of perseverance,the children in the high frequency group perform less satisfactorily than their counterparts in the low frequency group in terms of perseverance time in the tasks of attention ability measurement and anti-interference ability measurement respectively.But their performances in the measurement task of ability to cope with setbacks show no qualitative differences.In general,the preschool children’s perseverance level of the high frequency group is relatively lagging behind that of the low frequency group.3.To sum up,the high frequency of mobile terminal usage of the senior class preschool children affects the development of their perseverance level.This study,departing from the three dimensions of attention ability,antiinterference ability,and the ability to deal with setbacks,proved that senior class preschool kids’ frequent use of mobile terminals will affect the development of their perseverance level.We put forward several pieces of educational advice from the aspects of family,kindergarten,and society,looking forward to jointly building a better environment for preschool children’s mobile terminal usage,promoting the development of their perseverance level.
