Objective: To analyze the effects of ankle tapping on the jump performance of amateur male basketball players,to find out whether ankle taping would influence the jump performance and the sagittal plane ankle movements, control the coronal plane ankle movements, and whether the knee and hip joints have compensatory motion.Research method: Eighteen amateur male basketball players from Ningbo University were selected as the test subjects. The subjects completed the jump with ankle tapping and without ankle tapping respectly.Kinematic data was captured by 8 cameras Vicon three-dimensional motion capturing system(Vicon MX,Vicon Motion System Ltd.,Oxford England)with a sampling frequency of 200 Hz.The main kinematic parameters are the peak angles of the three-dimensional planes of the hip, knee, and ankle joints and the height of the jump.Kinematics and dynamics are acquired simultaneously. The kinetic data was collected by an AMTI force plate, and the acquisition frequency was set to 1000 Hz.The dynamic parameter is the peak vertical reaction force. All statistical results were analyzed in Stata 23.0 software. The paired sample T test was used to compare the significant differences between the kinematic and dynamic test parameters of basketball players with ankle tapping and ankle tapping unwound. The significance level was set at0.05.Results of the study:(1)There was no significant difference between the measured jump heights when the ankle tapping was applied and when the ankle tapping was not applied(P =0.234).Ankle tapping limit the peak angles of ankle dorsiflexion in the sagittal plane during takeoff and landing phase(P = 0.000 & 0.000).During the take-off phase, the peak flexion angle of the hip joint increased with ankle tapping(P = 0.000).The ankle brace significantly reduced the peak angle of varus and external rotation of the ankle joint during the jump and landing phase(P = 0.004& 0.005).(2)There was no significant difference in the peak vertical ground reaction force between the subjects during the take-off when ankle tapping was applied and when the ankle tapping was not applied(P = 0.243).The peak vertical ground reaction force of the subjects during the landing phase when the ankle bandage was applied was significantly larger than the peak vertical reaction force when the ankle bandage was not applied(P = 0.243).Conclusions and recommendations: This study finds that applying ankle tapping does not affect the jump performance of amateur male basketball players.Ankle tapping significantly reduces the peak angle of inversion and external rotation of the ankle joint during the jump and landing stages, and have a certain effect on controlling the stability of the ankle joint.Large peak vertical ground reaction force when landing with ankle tapping may increase the risk of injury to other lower limbs. This study suggests that amateur male basketball players should weigh the pros and cons when using ankle tapping, pay attention to the purpose of using ankle tapping, and choose whether to use this method to prevent ankle injury in basketball according to their actual conditions.
