| The relationship between higher education and intergenerational mobility is a classic problem in the field of sociology and has received wide attention from educators, statistician and economists. The contribution of higher education to society is not only reflected in its contribution to economic growth, but also has a deeper role, that is,as an important intergenerational mobility mechanism, carrying the function of promoting social mobility, ensuring social equity and maintaining social stability. However, with the continuous expansion of enrollment in colleges and universities,it is found that the problem of unemployment for graduates is becoming more and more serious, and the vulnerable groups are difficult to realize the upward mobility of social status through receiving higher education. This phenomenon has triggered scholars to think again about the mechanism of higher education in intergenerational mobility.Scholars have carried out a series of studies on this problem using different data and methods, but have not yet reached agreement. In addition to the mechanism of higher education on intergenerational mobility, the heterogeneity of the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility is also the focus of scholars in recent years. With the continuous expansion of the range of beneficiaries of higher education, the heterogeneous role of higher education among different groups is more obvious. Therefore,it will be of great practical significance to discuss the path of higher education on intergenerational mobility, the changing trend of the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility and the heterogeneity of higher education on intergenerational mobility in different groups.Based on the data of Chinese General Social Survey(abbreviated as CGSS),this paper will comprehensively investigate the relationship between higher education acquisition and intergenerational mobility by using structural equation model and UNIDIFF model. The purpose is to explore:(1)the mechanism and higher education in intergenerational mobility;(2)the trend of the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility in different periods;(3)the heterogeneity of the mechanism of higher education on intergenerational mobility among different groups. With a comprehensive understanding of the role of higher education in intergenerational mobility,it will be of some help in providing data support for the construction of higher education and the improvement of social equity in the future.Through the empirical analysis of the sample data, this paper holds that higher education has a significant role in promoting intergenerational mobility, and the difference between the roles of different gender groups is mainly reflected in the influence of paternal status on the educational opportunities of their offspring, compared with the male group, the influence of paternal social status on the female group is greater;Secondly, with the development of society, the relationship between higher education and offspring destination gradually decreases(ED),while the relationship between origin and destination(OD)and origin to education(OE)increases gradually;Between different classes, higher education has a greater impact on lower classes, which means the least accessible groups benefit most from access to higher education.Under these conclusions, while vigorously developing education, the government should pay more attention to the equity of opportunities in higher education, while striving to create more equal employment opportunities to ultimately promote social equity. There are two possible innovations in this paper.Firstly, this paper tries to measure the social status index of father and son from the perspective of multi-angle fusion. On the basis of calculating the comprehensive social status of father and son through the weight coefficient of occupation, education, class and income, this paper further explores the mechanism of the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility; In addition, this paper also focuses on the heterogeneity analysis of the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility. The text explores the difference of the influence mechanism of higher education on intergenerational mobility between different gender groups and different class groups, and makes a trend analysis on the influence degree of higher education on intergenerational mobility in different periods, which complements the empirical research on the influence of higher education on intergenerational mobility. There are also shortcomings in this paper. As a whole, the influence mechanism of higher education on intergenerational mobility needs to examine the social status of both parents and children, while the existing data limit the objective analysis of the group born after the 1990s in this paper,so the empirical analysis in this paper is limited to the sample group born in the 1960s to the 1990s. |
