Abstract/Summary:
With the high-speed growth of the China’s Economy and the equalization of education, the property of the residents has been significantly gathered, and the scientific quality of the labor force has also been greatly improved. As education has become an important indicator of the entry threshold, education has begun to assume the function of achieving social class circulation,so the family’s emphasis on education is stronger than ever. The push for household planning has slowed the growth of the new population and allowed families to focus more resources on education for the next generation. Then, under the pressure of different household structure, what kind of family structure will be more inclined to spend on education or spend more on education, this issue has been concerned. In order to solve this problem, based on the urban household survey data of Sichuan,Liaoning,Guangdong and Shanghai in 2014,this paper makes an empirical study by using logistic regression, limited dependent variable model and propensity score matching method.Setting the two variables of whether there is education expenditure behavior and the amount of education expenditure as the explanatory variables, taking the demographic variables of the household, whether to use borrowing to smooth consumption, food spending as a percentage of consumer spending, annual household disposable income, and monthly household disposable income as explanatory variables,at the same time, whether it is the developed region variable or not is introduced to distinguish the difference between the developed region and the whole region. In order to avoid the interference of Endogenesis to the empirical analysis, the method of tendency value matching is used to test the endogenesis of the variables caused by the family’s active choice. Finally, the robustness of the model is tested by changing the control variables to analyze whether there is a big difference between different families and the regression analysis. The conclusions are as follows:(1)when there are young people in the family, whether they are students or not will influence the behavior and amount of education expenditure of families with different population structure.(2)families with older persons with no stable income have a stronger tendency to spend on education than families with older persons with stable income,to a certain extent, poor families have a more irrational understanding of the return on investment in education.3)the higher the proportion of food spending, the stronger the negative impact on education spending;the higher the disposable income, the higher the child discipline spending;the’more volatile the disposable income, the less child discipline spending;and when the other variables are limited, households with the same level of affluence, those who used credit to smooth consumption, had higher levels of education spending.(4)families in the developed areas are more rational than those in the less developed areas in their attitude towards investment in education...
