Educational thought is an important part of pedagogy that explores educational theories,educational doctrines,and educational methods.It can guide the development of educational practice and is an important research field that cannot be ignored in pedagogy.However,the current research on educational thoughts pays less attention to the process of propagation and influence of educational thoughts.In recent years,there have been few breakthroughs in the research on educational thoughts.The research method is single,and it is difficult to meet the rapid development of digital historical materials in the development of information technology.Under this background,it is necessary to think about the path of further development and breakthrough in the research method of educational thought research.On the basis of referring to the relevant achievements on educational thought research at home and abroad,the literature measurement method is introduced into the research of educational thought,and it is combined with traditional literature analysis,historical analysis and other methods to explore the characteristics of the spread and influence of educational thought.The transmission process of Burton Clark’s thought,higher education "cooling-out" function,which has a greater influence in the field of higher education is selected.The word frequency analysis method,co-word analysis method,citation description analysis and citation content in the literature measurement method are comprehensively used to analysis the characteristics and processes of its spread and impact.It is concluded that the characteristics of the spread of the idea include: the characteristics of strong volatility in the early period of communication in the period of communication,and a relatively stable communication trend in the later period of communication;the characteristics of the communication space,the main communication of the idea in the early period of communication affects the countries with similar conditions then gradually spread to other countries and spread to the whole world;the characteristics of the impact subject field,in the early days of the spread of the educational idea,the topic of communication was more concentrated in the research field of the idea itself.As the influence of the educational idea continues to spread,the spread of the educational idea gradually spreads to other related research fields,and the subject of influence is also constantly enriched;during the communication process,it is found that the different nature citations of the articles in which educational ideas are located affect the spread of educational ideas.The nature of citations should be analyzed when exploring communication and influence.This study takes Burton Clarke’s idea of "cooling-out" function in higher education as an example to explore and summarize the spreading characteristics of educational thoughts.At the same time,it digs out useful research methods other than traditional historical research methods,and provides new ideas for the improvement and breakthrough of educational thought research methods in the context of the continuous development and innovation of educational thought research.And under the background of continuous enrichment and improvement of digital historical data,the improvement and breakthrough of educational thought research methods provide new ideas in order to promote the continuous development of educational thought research.
