The influence of Chinese in Southeast Asia has steadily increased,and Thailand has included Chinese courses in the national education system.The popularity of Chinese in primary and secondary schools in Thailand has made the learners show a trend of younger age.Based on the personality characteristics of Thai primary and secondary school students,Chinese teachers often use games to teach,but there are still many problems in the implementation process.This article combines the author’s practical experience in Chinese classes in Thai middle schools to analyze the common problems in traditional game teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Choosing a suitable game for teaching needs to consider: whether the game meets the age characteristics of the students,children like to "play hands",and teenagers like competitive classrooms;whether teachers can explain the rules of the game in words;whether games are just a class Auxiliary means is a flavoring agent for the classroom atmosphere,which separates games from teaching;whether the space of games is restricted and whether games are innovative.Based on the problems encountered in game teaching,this article proposes "thematic game teaching".The "thematic game teaching" takes the theme as the core,the students as the main body,the game as the form,and features the scenarios with the theme imagination.Investigating and negotiating through various means,learning language knowledge,co-planning by teachers and students,developing game plots around the theme creatively,continually,and developing to cultivate students’ communicative abilities."Thematic game teaching" gives full play to students’ creativity and practicality.Teachers and students make joint decisions to select topics of interest to students,making game teaching a part of the teaching process,improving classroom efficiency,and making interaction more effective.This article takes the Mathayomthaklang school in Thailand as an example.who are active in school and have strong practical skills.Since the school does not have enough textbooks for students to use,teachers need to decide the teaching content according to the level of students.Based on the existing textbook "Happy Chinese",combined with their local textbook "Chinese Friends 3",they analyze the students’ interest in learning Ten themes including greetings,transportation,animals,fruits,food,colors,weather,family,country,body parts,etc.were selected.Practice thematic game teaching in comprehensive courses.The specific operation is to first determine the teaching theme,screen the theme resources according to the teaching theme,make a teaching schedule,and complete the teaching goals in the form of games.In combination with teaching practice,the author designed a teaching case for Thai elementary school students using the theme game teaching concept.Finally,it is found that the advantage of this method is that students and teachers choose together,select topics of interest,complete teaching tasks in the game,and extend the attention time of students in the classroom.What needs to be improved is that the theme is fixed and lacks flexibility,and this puts high demands on teachers’ teaching literacy.Teachers should strengthen their control over the classroom.Practice has proved that thematic game teaching can help students learn Chinese and improve classroom efficiency,but thematic game teaching should also be used in a timely manner.
