The headmasters of township central school is the legal representative of basic education in townships and towns.It is an important hub that affects the internal governance system of the school and the external governance structure of the school.It is also a communication bridge between the government,schools,parents,and society.The role orientation of the principal of the central school is not only the concrete embodiment of the local education governance,but also affects the development of the regional education level.Therefore,it plays an important role in improving the ability of regional education governance,optimizing the system of education governance and improving the quality of school education to clarify the role orientation of the principal of the central school starting from the role theory.In this study,we utilize three research methods: literature research,empirical investigation and in-depth interview,combined with quantitative and qualitative research methods,to find a scientific basis for the correct role orientation of the principal of the central school.This paper consists of three parts.The first part is to fully listen to the experts’ opinions in this field,and combine with the theoretical basis to develop the scale of the role of the headmaster of rural central school,and analyze the exploratory and confirmatory factors of the scale to ensure the scientificity and rationality of the scale.By sending out questionnaires to villages and towns in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,we find out the status quo of the central school principal’s positioning in the five roles of regional education planners,school district administrators,curriculum and teaching leaders,national culture inheritors and resource allocators.Secondly,the paper deeply discusses the causes of the deviation of the role orientation of the central school principals,and finds that the weak ability of the central school principals to perform their roles,the lack of role cognitive ability,the differences of role expectation groups and the single role evaluation criteria make it difficult for the Central School Principals to find the correct orientation.Thirdly,in order to effectively improve the ability of regional education governance and avoid the risk of role orientation,we should first change the government’s educational function,especially the role of government’s education governance,implement the school’s self governance,and ensure the central school’s principal’s ability to play the role;secondly,we should enrich the principal’s knowledge structure,improve the cognitive ability of the role,and play a good role with systematic and overall ideas;thirdly,we should establish To meet the expectations of key roles,we need to constantly update education concepts,take into account the interests of multiple subjects,give full play to the leadership of the president,and lead the development of regional education.Fourthly,we need to establish a scientific evaluation system to promote reform through evaluation,strengthen regional cultural identity,and actively build a national cultural brand.This study is of great theoretical and practical significance to investigate the current situation of the role orientation of the principals in the central school,to clarify the problems in each role orientation,to explore the reasons that affect the role orientation of the principals in the central school,and to put forward the optimization suggestions to overcome the role orientation deviation.
