Analysis Of News Discourse Differences Between Xinhua And AP On Sun Yang’s Doping Test Incident In 2019

As the Tokyo Olympics approaches,the phenomenon of sports politicization around the "doping issue" is becoming increasingly prominent.The public hearing on the case of the WADA v.Sun Yang and FINA held in CAS became the most realistic footnote to this issue.Major world news agencies,represented by Xinhua News Agency and Associated Press,have paid great attention to the "Sun Yang Doping Test Incident" in 2019.Based on the news discourse analysis theories of Van Dijk,this paper makes a comparative analysis of 34 reports on "Sun Yang Doping Test Incident" by Xinhua News Agency and Associated Press in 2019.First of all,the article sorts out the news dissemination of Xinhua News Agency and Associated Press from the aspects of communication topic setting,word selection and source selection.Then,from the perspective of text and context,the presentation of news discourse in relevant reports of both sides is further investigated.From this,we find the differences in the construction of news discourse between Xinhua News Agency and Associated Press,so as to provide reference for Xinhua News Agency’s sports communication practice.The results of this study show that Xinhua News Agency and Associated Press show different structural features of news discourse in the reports of "Sun Yang Doping Test Incident" in 2019.The discourse intervention of power and the ideological differences make the two sides show considerable differences and differences in the news narrative mode,word selection,source selection,reporting style and rhetoric application in the report.Xinhua News Agency should pay attention to optimizing the concept of news reporting and actively upgrade the methods of news reporting in its future reports.To make a strong "Chinese voice" on relevant issues,and then to further grasp the right to speak in international sports reports.
