Since the issue of The New English Teaching Outline for Vocational Schools in 2009,teachers and students have been growing more and more aware of the importance of the requirement of students’ mastery cultural knowledge and practical intercultural communication competence.This is also a requirement of vocational business English major students and thus a key direction for teachers’ instruction.As is often the case,a major teaching goal is to be attained through a certain course and its textbook.It is therefore the purpose of the present study to compare existing three main course books on intercultural business communication for college students with a view to putting forward suggestions for writing a new one for vocational business major students.This paper sets out to comprehensively evaluate the current situation of vocational business English major regarding the English level of vocational students,teaching conditions and textbooks available,then further discusses the importance and significance of intercultural business communication in English teaching to this special group of students,and finally,based on a comparison of textbook writing theories,case studies,exercises design and word list in the three textbooks,puts forward suggestions as to how to produce a new course book for vocational business English students.It is hoped that the present study will prove to be of some practical value to and active implications for the production of a new course book for vocational business English teaching and learning.
