On Ke Bainian’promotion Of The Sinicization Of Marxism（1919-1949）

The Sinicization of Marxism begins with translation,and the group of early Marxist translators is an important driving force in the process of Sinicization of Marxism.As a translator of marxist works of the older generation in China,Ke Bainian made outstanding contributions to the compilation of Marxist classics during the revolutionary period and promoted the process of the Sinicization of early Marxism in China.The Sinicization of Marxism promoted by Ke Bainian has its specific historical background.From the social conditions,Marxism was unconsciously and systematically translated into China at the end of the 19 th and early 20 th century,the Russian October revolution widely reported also contributed to a translation of Marxism-leninism hot.In addition,the reform and development of modern newspaper industry represented by Republic of China Daily created conditions for Ke Bainian’s translation of Marxism.From the perspective of the subject,Ke Bainian’s study experience in University of Hujiang improved his foreign language level and improved his translation ability.Later,he transferred to the Department of Sociology of Shanghai University,where his strong Marxist academic atmosphere further accumulated his theoretical foundation.The process of promoting the Sinicization of Marxism in Ke Bainian can be divided into four stages: the first stage is the germination of ideas,trying to translate American Marxist writings and writing articles to introduce what is socialism;Second,in the preliminary exploration stage,he translated many works of Lenin and the Soviet Policy program,and initially translated the original works of Mann.Third,in the tortuous development stage,under the cultural siege and suppression of the Kuomintang,he began to translate emerging philosophical,political and sociological works.His social science works closely combined the Marxist methodology with Chinese social problems.Fourth,he joined the Marxist-Leninist Institute in Yan ’an.Under the unified organization of the Party,he systematically compiled the Marx and Engels series and thematic collections,combining Marxist theory with the development situation of the Chinese revolution and promoting the adaptation of Marxism to China.Judging from the content of Ke Bainian’s promotion of the Sinicization of Marxism,in terms of philosophy,he translated the works of German worker philosopher Dietzegen,which was little known by Chinese people at that time,and described the principles of dialectical materialism from a new perspective.Later,he sorted out relevant materials and traced the development history of dialectic materialism.As for Marxist political economy,Ke Bainian explained a large number of terms of political economy in his dictionary,thus explaining the theory of labor value and surplus value.As for the theory of scientific socialism,Ke Bainian explained the theories of proletarian revolution and Marxist social development in his works on scientific socialism,which were translated and published by Marx and Lenin.Judging from the characteristics of Kebainian’s promotion of the sinicization of Marxism,in terms of practice,translating Marxist works is his main practical activity.In the process of translating Marxist works,Ke Bainian has always adhered to the principles of unifying academic rationality and plainness in translation,and integrating Marxism with traditional Chinese culture.In terms of theoretical dissemination,Ke Bainian insisted on the diversification of dissemination methods.On the one hand,he actively participated in the debate with non-Marxists and defended the truth of Marxism.On the other hand,he propagated Marxist theory through educational lectures,editing revolutionary newspapers and periodicals,and at the same time actively organized and participated in social revolutionary cultural groups to spread Marxism.In terms of research,Ke Bainian attaches great importance to the research of social sciences,and promotes the development of emerging social sciences through translation and compilation of social science treatises.By analyzing the historical process,content and characteristics of Ke Bainian’s promotion of the sinicization of Marxism,we can see its value in promoting the sinicization of Marxism,as well as its limitations in translation and theoretical innovation,sum up experience and give new thinking to the development of Marxism sinicization in the new era.
