| In recent times,there’s been a growing emphasis o n mit igat ing the challenges faced by Indian senior cit izens due to various ageing problems and an increase in the ageing populatio n.Many infra-develo pers are creating an ageing friendly cit y for senior cit izens,focusing so lely on the factors affect ing Indian senior cit izens.The current trend of creating an ageing friendly cit y can be believed to be the best approach.The ageing friendly cit y provides a supportive at mosphere that encourages individuals to grow older vo luntarily in their dwellings,communit ies and civil societ y and creates ample opportunit ies for communit y invo lvement.But this also tends to pose a couple o f other challenges,such as improper use of space for the exist ing ageing friendly cit y are being limit ed to a minimum floor level o f 7 or 8 due to acrophobia factors that arise among senior cit izens and lo ng-term problems of lo neliness based on the elderly co mmunit y.These condit io ns like improper usage of space might create a huge problem when they need of occupancy demand increases enormously in future.The purpose of this thesis is to explore the potential for the creation o f so me integrated communit y models,consist ing of both senior cit izens and other occupants,in the potent ial future high-rise urban tower developments for urban ageing and also to meet the futurist ic occupancy demand.This study conducted few general surveys,in-depth interviews and literature review to understand the problems faced by Indian senior cit izens and the exist ing market practices fo llowed for the creation o f ageing friendly cit ies in India.A total number of 220 subjects in and around Bangalore,Karnataka,India participated in the survey,among which 20 responses who are experts in the field o f construction industry are selected for the In-depth Interview Analysis,while 200 acknowledgements from elderly and other respondents belo w 60 years are interviewed for quest ionaries.This thesis indicated that the life sat isfact ion of urban ageing can be achieved for both the senior cit izens and the people aged below 60 years through the concept of Integrated Ageing friendly communit y wit h in the highly populated cit ies like Mumbai,Bangalore,Delhi,etc.,and also helps to conserve certain factors such as misut ilizat ion o f the land use in Urban area and to achieve the maximum permissible Floor Area Rat io(FAR)allowed by the government in a part icular zone to meet the growing populat ion demand in the next 2-3 decades. |
