Research On The Brookings Institution In US National Security Policy

Think tanks are independent non-profit policy research institutions which regard public policy research as the emphasis and the influences on the government’s public policy decisions as the final target.There is a very close connection between the American Think Tanks and the US government,and it acts as a "revolving door" between American politics and academia.In recent years,American Think Tanks have developed rapidly and are playing an increasingly important role in the formulation of their national public policies.Among them,the Brookings Institution is one of the most famous Think Tanks in the United States,and its world influence has ranked first both in the world and in the United States for many years.The Brookings Institution has many subordinate research centers that cover political,economic,cultural,diplomatic,and national security issues,but its ultimate purpose is help with the US government decision-making.However,the academic research focus on Brookings Institution is limited to theoretical research on its origin,development and research direction of the brookings institution,and it lacks research on the influence of a specific public policy making.The research of the Brookings Institution in academic circles is mostly based on the elitist theory and the pluralistic theory,which provided a great help to the research of this article theoretically.Based on the elitist theory and the political system theory,a detailed analysis of how the Brookings Institution affects U.S.national security policy and a summary of the role as well as its methods,ways and functions of the Brookings Institution to exert influence in national security policy making are studied in the two actual case in this article.Finally,two new research perspectives,policy process and social structure,are selected to evaluate the impact of the Brookings Institution on the national security policy of the United States and analyze the internal and external factors that restrict its impact.With the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength,Chinese think tanks have also entered a period of rapid development.We must pay attention to the rare historical opportunities of Chinese think tanks at the same time.Combined with the current status of Chinese think tanks and learn from the development experience of American Think Tanks,we need to find out the way suitable for the development of China’s think tank and promote the further development of it.
