A Study Of Lipset’s Political Neoconservatism

With the end of the golden period of western economic development and the failure of Keynesianism after the war,various social problems arose in the western capitalist countries,which led the whole academic circle to reflect on the liberal view.Under the background of this era,neoconservative thought began to develop and once became the mainstream of western political thought.As the representative figure of neoconservative thought,Seymour Martin Lipset not only influenced the political situation at that time,but also provided theoretical and practical basis for the later scholars’ research.From the literature of Lipsett’s political thought theory,it is concluded that his political neoconservative thought has not yet been constructed into a complete system.Therefore,this paper tries to construct the neoconservative thought system of Lipsett’s political neoconservativeism through the analysis of its ideological content and values,and makes an objective and comprehensive evaluation of its political neoconservative thought.First of all,it discusses the process,background and origin of the formation of Lipsett’s political conservatism thought.It can be found that his political thought was finally recognized as neoconservative after two changes.Secondly,it is the construction of the neoconservative content of Lipsett’s politics.Mainly reflected in the analysis of democracy,in the democracy and economy,political legitimacy and effectiveness and democracy and political culture theory,it is concluded that its theoretical content is based on the western liberal democratic system as a starting point,with the United States system to analyze democratic issues.Third,the construction of political neoconservative values.With the end of American exceptionalism and ideology,the ideas of American centralism and western centralism in its theory are strengthened.Finally,the neoconservative thought of Lipsett’s politics is examined.Explore the limitations,values and enlightenments of his thoughts.At this point,the construction of Lipsett’s political neoconservative ideology is completed.Through the combing and analysis of Lipsett’s political neoconservative thought and the construction of the system,it is concluded that Lipsett has made a unique opinion on political neoconservatism from a broad theoretical perspective,and his theoretical construction reflects the tradition and order emphasized by political neoconservatism.While adhering to the traditional thought,the theory is innovated,and although there has always been ideological bias in its political neoconservative thought,it has also laid down the development of the follow-up related political theory.
