Research On Ellen Wood’s Thought Of Nation-state

Since the 1980s,globalization has had a huge impact on nation-states.Capital has surpassed the geographic boundaries of nation-states,capitalist exploitation has intensified,and nation-state problems have become prominent.Therefore,it is extremely important to study nation-states based on theory and reality.Ellen Meiksins Wood is an important Marxist scholar and leftist political scientist in the West,and one of the founders of the “political Marxism” school.The nation-state is the theme in Wood’s works.Wood based on the background of the era of globalization and historical materialism,systematically expounds the connotation,origin,function,development dilemma and trend of the nation-state.In terms of the connotation of the nation-state,she emphasized the use of public power that was concealed by class domination;in terms of the origin of the nation-state,the nation-state originated in Europe in the 19 th century,and the emergence of the nation-state paralleled the origin of capitalism;With regard to the functions of the nation-state,the nation-state has internal functions such as political rule and social security to support capital expansion,and its external functions have international exchanges to participate in global competition.In terms of development difficulties,false democracy cannot achieve the goals of liberal democracy and technological determinism misreading socialism.The political and economic division of capitalistic labor characteristic will promote the labor movement;In terms of development trends,the end of capital imperialism and the establishment of a socialist country.From this,Wood concluded that nation-states still play an irreplaceable role in the era of globalization.This article is devoted to systematically expounding Wood’s thought of nation-state,and objectively evaluating it,in order to correctly understand the new development of contemporary capitalism and provide reference for the governance of nation-state.
