The end of the Cold War was an epoch-making event in the history of international relations, with the collapse of the bipolar structure, the disintegration of the socialist camp, the wave of capitalism sweeping the world and the intensification of competition on the European continent. The great changes in the structure of the international system have had a great impact on France’s view of international politics, while Russia is struggling to recover its great power status on the collapse of the Soviet Union. In recent years, the liberal international order is facing collapse, the regulating role of the international mechanism on the world order is gradually failing, and the power backed by force has once again become the main tool of the country’s foreign policy.France and Russia,as countries with superior political, economic and military strength, influence and shape the political map of the European continent under the fetters of history and reality, and also disturb the international political pattern all the time. The Franco-Russian relationship is not an ordinary bilateral relationship. Both countries are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and have some economic power. They have always been and always will be decisive factors in European and world politics.European and global stability depends to a large extent on the credibility of the political dialogue between France and Russia, deep economic cooperation and close cultural ties. Both France and Russia believe that today’s world is complex and multi-polar,and both attach special importance to the rejection of strategic independence from a unipolar world and multilateralism under the framework of the United Nations. They believe that multilateralism is the guarantee of world stability and development, but there are still differences in this common cognition.France’s foreign policy has been dominated by the "ambition" to restore the country’s lost international status,Russia’s efforts to restore its international political status have many similarities with the "ambition" that has been the core of French foreign policy since the end of World War II,the common interests of European security considerations are also in recent years, focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. But American constraints,European Union constraints and crisis management of international emergencies have also affected the relationship.France’s multipolarity based on the existing Western liberal order and firm commitment to multilateralism is still the basis for the development of bilateral relations and even European integration between France and Russia. On the premise of not damaging the basic values,France is looking for space to move with Russia. However,Russia obviously has a lot of dissatisfaction with the liberal international order dominated by the West.In the context of the unprecedented changes reshaping the international order in a century, the new situation between France and Russia calls for further attention.
