Research On Russian Economic Diplomacy’s Policy After Ukraine Crisis

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union,the level of geopolitics and economic development has constrained Russia’s development as an independent sovereign state.After the Ukraine crisis in 2014,Western countries imposed severe sanctions on Russia,coupled with the adverse effects of a variety of other objective factors,which hindered Russia’s economic development.Russia has attached importance to economic diplomacy with other countries.Economic diplomacy is an integral part of National Foreign Policy and,as a measure of diplomacy,includes diplomatic actions to protect the country economic interests at the international level: increasing exports,attracting foreign investment,participating in international economic organizations,etc.In different periods of Russian economic diplomacy had different diplomatic significance,especially after the crisis in Ukraine,Russia’s economic diplomacy more flexible,especially in the following three aspects: on the one hand to maintain the stability of Russian-European Economic and trade cooperation,while providing Russian and European leaders with channels of dialogue,to prevent the continued deterioration of Russian-European relations,to ensure“limited cooperation”at the economic level;on the other hand,Russia through economic diplomacy to establish extensive economic and trade cooperation with other countries,to break the embargo and sanctions of Western countries,in particular the establishment of multilateral financial mechanisms aimed at improving the smooth flow of national financing channels;at the same time,Russia also actively play a major role in attracting foreign investment in domestic enterprises,increase national productivity.On the basis of a detailed combing of the development and change of Russian economic diplomacy after 2014,this paper focuses on the characteristics and significance of the mechanism of Russian economic diplomacy during this period.First,the first part is a summary of Russia’s economic diplomacy during the period 1990-2014,and a comparative study of the strategic direction and specific policies ofeconomic diplomacy during different periods around 2014.In this paper,after 2014,Russia’s economic and diplomatic relations pay more attention to national sovereignty and emphasize cooperation with other countries and regions on an equal footing.Secondly,the second and third chapters of the thesis combed the operating mechanism and characteristics of Russian economic diplomacy during this period,respectively.This paper finds that due to the complexity and particularity of the challenges faced by Russia in this period,Russia’s active economic diplomacy in this period is not only the active choice of the country,but also the inevitable requirement of the system.During this period,economic diplomacy,in addition to taking advantage of its advantages in energy markets and arms trade markets to ensure national income,also injected new impetus into agricultural trade to increase national income.Finally,in the fourth part,the paper analyzes the future challenges and effects of Russian economic diplomacy and looks forward to the changes of Russian economic diplomacy in the coming period.Affected by the epidemic,a new round of public opinion attacks in Western countries and economic sanctions,domestic political reform and other factors,Russia to carry out economic diplomacy will face pressure from both international and domestic levels,the future economic diplomacy also need to promote national development through both domestic and international levels.
