Research On Progressive Alliance And Its Policy

Progressive Alliance(hereinafter abbreviated as PA)was established under the unremitting efforts of the SPD of Germany,the British Labor Party,and the SAP of Swedish.The establishment of the Progressive Alliance is inseparable from the help of the PA of European Socialists,Socialists and Democrats.PA has its headquarters in Berlin.The background of the establishment of the PA was the economic inequality crisis caused by neoliberalism since the 2008 economic crisis;politically,the rise of the right-wing populist parties in Europe squeezed the living space of the Social Democratic Party.In response to the above problems,the Socialist International did not propose effective reform measures and rejected the western european socialist party’s proposal for internal reform of the Socialist International.Therefore,in order to reintegrate the social democratic forces,the western european socialist party decided to establish an international organization parallel to the Socialist International-PA.This article takes PA and its policy propositions as the research object,uses historical analysis and comparative analysis to study PA,tries to clarify the development process of the PA,explores the core policy propositions,combining the practice and effectiveness to analyze the inherent defects of the PA.The policy proposition of the PA can be divided into four parts.The PA believes that the combination of political power and the market has eroded democracy,so it should abandon liberal democracy and reshape social democracy through"progressiveism."In terms of economy,PA believes that it can no longer passively defend the market.It needs to use "democracy" to overcome the shortcomings of capitalism,so that the economy can be re-anchored in society in a "democratic"way and the market can satisfy the interests of the majority.In terms of society,the PA hopes to shape a democratic society and achieve social justice.To build a just society that conforms to the principles of justice,it is necessary to achieve equality between men and women,and for everyone to enjoy high-quality education.Faced with global issues such as resource depletion,climate crisis,immigration and refugee issues,PA upholds the value of unity and hopes to realize the global energy transition,alleviate the climate crisis,and solve the refugee problem through international cooperation.In recent years,due to the squeeze of right-wing populist parties and the inadequacy of their own campaign plans,members of the PA have continued to lose votes and support in their national parliamentary elections.Outside the parliament,PA hopes to enhance the competitiveness of political parties by strengthening inter-party cooperation,and at the same time actively organize and participate in international conferences,keep close contact with progressive organizations and movements,and increase organizational influence.But the actual effect is not ideal because of the defects of the PA.For example,the instability of the organization implied by the high overlap between members and the socialist international,the ambiguity of their own positioning caused by the pluralism of guiding ideology,and the lack of attractiveness caused by the similarity of policy propositions.The establishment of the Progressive Alliance marked the division within the Socialist International,which represented a new direction of Social Democracy that was different from the Socialist International,but from another perspective,it also distracted the power of Social Democracy.
