Abstract/Summary:
Democracy is not only considered as the best decision-making method, but also can enhance the autonomy, rationality and morality of participants.Besides these instrumental values, democracy also has the intrinsic value of freedom and equality that everyone is pursuing.Based on this kind of instrumental value and intrinsic value,it has been the unswerving political pursuit and ideal of every citizen since the birth of ancient Greece. However, with the globalization and the multiple complexity of social reality, the democratic system of liberalism gradually exposes its inherent disadvantages, leading to many contradictions such as the crisis of democratization and the decline of democratic legitimacy function. The traditional liberal democratic system cannot adapt to this situation, and cannot meet the requirements of modern citizens and the development of society. It is in this context that deliberative democracy has been brought up and flourished, and has become the core of contemporary democracy.John S.Dryzek, the arc winner and lifelong professor of consultative democracy and global governance center of Australian Institute of governance and policy analysis,is one of the most authoritative scholars in the field of western eco political theory and consultative democracy theory, and one of the founders of Western cooperative system theory. In the process of the transition from democracy to consultation,Professor drezek is acutely aware of the problems existing in the contemporary theory of deliberative democracy, that is,the democracy of free constitutionalism will produce many defects, while the theory of deliberative democracy which should be reflective and critical is being assimilated by liberal constitutionalism, and the criticism is weakening. At the same time, the capitalist market economy is also implementing effective national democracy With the restriction, the concept of consultation becomes increasingly narrow, and the resources to respond effectively to criticism are lost, which leads to the crisis of democratic legitimacy. Therefore, based on Habermas’ s theory of deliberative democracy and discourse democracy, social choice theory and differential democracy,he draws on the achievements of the development of deliberative democracy theory and practice so far and responds to the critics of deliberative democracy.Studying his thought of deliberative democracy will help us to understand the development and defects of the theory of Deliberative Democracy from different Western students as a whole, which will play an important role in our understanding of the theory of deliberative democracy as a whole, and also enlighten us to understand, absorb and draw lessons from the advanced western thought of deliberative democracy.Based on Habermas’ s theory of deliberative democracy and discourse democracy, social choice theory and differential democracy, this paper analyzes the defects of representative democracy and free constitutional democracy, the weakening of critical foundation of deliberative democracy, the assimilation of liberal constitutionalism, the decline of civilization of political elites and the complexity of political debate, and the Democratic crisis Furthermore,it focuses on the value objectives, application fields, realization ways of Dryzek’s deliberative democracy and the transformation of Dryzek’ s deliberative democracy thought to the deliberative system in recent years. On this basis,it evaluates the contribution and limitations of Dryzek ’s deliberative democracy thought.
