The Influence Of Dark Triad On The Risk Of Prisoners In Prison

The Dark Triad consists of Machiavellianism,Narcissism and Psychopathy.Since Paulhus and Williams put forward the concept of dark triad in 2002,the research on it has been increasing year by year.For example,the correlation and heterogeneity of dark triad structure,the relationship between dark triad and big five personality,prosocial and antisocial.The dark triad has antisocial characteristics,such as bullying and aggressive behaviors.Some researchers believe that the dark triad has great research value in predicting antisocial behaviors and crimes.Self-control is an ability of individuals to control themselves actively,which involves various aspects of psychological cognition,emotion and behavior.Gottfredson and Hirschi proposed the theory of self-control in 1990 that self-control is the only individual variable of criminal behavior.Attachment theory first proposed by Bowlby which is an internal cognitive model about the relationship between the self and important others that develops gradually in infancy and childhood.It influences and guides the social behavior of individuals in the process of life-long development.There have been many studies on the relationship between dark triad,self-control and parent-child attachment and crime,but few studies integrated the relationship between the three variables and crime.Researches on the risk of prisoners in prison is more about the evaluation,early warning and education transformation in the judicial field.Exploring the relationship between the dark triad and the risk of prisoners in prison from the perspective of psychology,and further investigating the mechanism of self-control and parent-child attachment between the two will help enrich the study of prisoners’ psychology,and provide references for the management reform,crisis warning and intervention of prisoners in prison.Based on this,this study adopted cluster sampling method to select 780 inmates from a prison in Jiangxi province as research objects,tested them with the Chinese revised version of the short dark triad scale(SD3),the risk assessment scale of prisoners in prison(other rating scale),the self-control scale and the parent-child attachment questionnaire.Then a case study was conducted on subjects who had escaped,committed murder or committed suicide in prison in recent years,collecting their family background,parent-child attachment and self-control for qualitative analysis.The results of related studies found that:(1)The dark triad positively predicts the danger of prisoners in prison,That is,the higher the dark triad,the higher the risk of prison criminals.(2)Self-control was negatively correlated with risk in prison,That is to say,the worse the self-control,the greater the danger in prison.(3)Self-control plays a part in mediating role between the dark trait and the danger of prisoners in prison.Parent-child attachment moderates the relationship between self-control and prison risk,Such as,the influence of self-control on the risk of prisoners in prison is regulated by parental attachment.The results of the case study shows that having dark trait group’s typical features: impulsive,thrill-seeking behavior,lack of empathy,lack of sense of responsibility,self-centered,ruthless criminals are the characteristics of poor interpersonal relationship,emotional impulse,irritability,under the stimulus of a particular event can easily lead to poor self-control,ideological bias resulting in the occurrence of risky behaviour.
