A Research Of Eric·Hobsbawm’s Thought Of ‘Nation-State’

Our world is inevitably moving in the direction of globalization,but today the international community is composed of independent national states as political units.Whether the internal affairs of the nation-state and the communication between them are well coordinated or not is closely related to the destiny of mankind and even more important to the pattern of the future world.The discussion of "nation-state" is the most important philosophical achievement of Eric·Hobsbawm except historical achievement.Eric·Hobsbawm analyzed the overall relationship between globalization and national issues,combined with historical facts,to avoid monotonous pure abstract research,and considered the fate of national states on the basis of inheriting Marxist state theory.This thesis studies Eric·Hobsbawm’s ‘nation-state’ ideology as the main content.Combining with the background of The Times and the influential theories,this thesis expounds the origin of his nation-state ideology.It analyzes the theoretical connotation of nationality and nationalism with the nation-state,analyzes the characteristics and functions of the nation-state,and predicts its future path according to the inherent contradictions of the nation-state and the predicament it faces.On this basis,the positive significance and deficiency of the ideology are further reviewed.In conclusion,the study of Eric·Hobsbawm’s theory of nation-state is not only of theoretical value but also of practical significance.
