Analysis Of The Artistic Form And Singing Method Of The Shanxi Qitai Yangge Opera "Stealing Pumpkin"

The Qitai Yangge is a local folk opera that originated in Qixian and Taigu and spread to the surrounding counties and cities.It has evolved from the budding period of cross-street rice-songs,influenced by the art of social fires and opera,to the mature folk opera it is now.Qitai Yangge originates from the folk and serves the folk;the content is taken from the trivialities of the people’s lives,parents and short stories;the tunes come from the collective wisdom of folk artists and many Yangge artists,and are loved by the local people.This paper will explore the artistic form characteristics and singing methods of the Qitai Yangge Opera ’Stealing Pumpkins’.Firstly,an overview is given of the historical origins of Qitai Yangge and the influence of Jin merchant culture on Qitai Yangge,starting with the definition of Qitai Yangge and further sorting out its origins,development,regional distribution and differences,as well as a brief analysis of the geographical environment of the Jinzhong region,the close connection between Jin merchant civilisation and Qitai Yangge.Secondly,the artistic features of Stealing Pumpkins are analysed in depth,mainly in terms of drama,music and performance.The play is analysed mainly in terms of its repertoire and lyrical features,taking the script and lyrics of the Yangge opera Stealing the Pumpkin as the object of study,and discussing the use of dialect and liner notes in the lyrics.The music is analysed in terms of melodic line,rhythmic analysis,scale modulation and basic structure,and the characteristics of the musical forms of different periods and versions of Stealing Pumpkins.The performance forms are analysed in terms of accompanying instruments,make-up and costumes,stage performances and performance venues.Finally,the paper takes the vocal method and singing embellishment of Qitai Yangge as a starting point,and uses a large number of field data and interviews with Yangge artists and video recordings as a research object to sort out and analyse the singing of the Yangge opera Stealing the Pumpkin in detail,providing material support for the study of the singing of Qitai Yangge.
