With the implementation of the new curriculum standard,scholars in the education field pay more and more attention to the study of students’ learning expectancy-value and students’ learning engagement,which has gradually penetrated into various disciplines,but few studies have explored the relationship between English learning expectancy-value and English learning engagement.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the correlation between high school students’ expectancy-value and English learning engagement,which opens up a new perspective.In view of this,the research subject for this study is 287 students and 3 English teachers from five classes in Grade One at M No.2 Senior High School,and conducts 2 questionnaires among 287 students and interviews with 3 English teachers.The main research questions are:(1)What is the current situation of senior high school students’ English learning expectancy-value?(2)What is the current situation of senior high school students’ English learning engagement?(3)What is the correlation between English learning expectancy-value and learning engagement of senior high school students?In this study,SPSS26.0 data analysis software is used to process the obtained data,descriptive statistic is used to analyze students’ current situation of English learning expectancy-value and English learning engagement,Pearson correlation coefficient is used to study the correlation between senior high school students’ English learning expectancy-value and learning engagement,and multiple regression analysis is used to test the predictive ability of students’ English learning expectancy-value in English learning engagement.The results show that:(1)English learning expectancy-value of senior high school students is generally at the range of medium to high level,and most senior high school students’ expectation of success and task value are at the high level,but students’ ability belief is at the medium level;On the whole,the English learning engagement is at the medium level,most senior high school students’ behavioral engagement,emotional engagement and cognitive engagement are at the medium level;(2)Pearson coefficient shows that there is a significant positive correlation between senior high school students’ English expectancy-value and English learning engagement.Among them,English learning task value and ability belief are significantly positively correlated with English learning engagement and learning engagement dimensions,but English learning expectation of success is not significantly positively correlated with English learning engagement and learning engagement dimensions.(3)Multiple regression analysis shows that English learning task value and ability belief can positively predict English learning engagement.Based on the research on the current situation of senior high school students’ English learning expectancy-value and learning engagement and the correlation between English learning expectancy-value and learning engagement,this study understands the basic situation of high school students’ English learning expectancy-value and learning engagement and the relationship between them.On the basis of scientific discovery,it provides suggestions from multiple perspectives to help students establish correct English learning expectancy-value and improve English learning engagement.I hope this thesis can provide some reference for improving the quality of English teaching in senior high schools. |
