Shen Congwen’s "Qingdao Experience" And The Evolution Of His Literary Creation

Shen Congwen officially entered the literary world in 1924.In the following six or seven years,he published a considerable number of works,but few of his works were truly praised.In August 1931,Shen Congwen who lives and works disagreeably moved from Beijing to Qingdao,a coastal city.He could not have foreseen that this decision would have a significant impact on his literary career and life path.In 1933,Shen Congwen left Qingdao and returned to Beijing.Subsequently,the most representative works such as Border Town and Xiang Xing San Ji were published one after another.The emergence of these works marked the maturity and climax of Shen Congern’s literary creation,and Shen Congwen became a pivotal and indispensable figure in the literary world.The success of Shen Congwen’s literary career is not only relation to the accumulation of creative experience in Beijing period and Shanghai period,but also closely related to the time spent and literary practice in Qingdao from 1931 to1933.Under the joint action of natural environment and human environment in Qingdao,Shen Congwen’s inner world changed a lot.The positive guidance of his heart changed Shen Congwen’s literary creation to some extent and accelerated the process of his literary creation towards maturity.The main part of this thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is towards a clear artistic life.The open sea,the friendly social atmosphere and the free distribution of time stretches the urban-rural pattern and artistic experiment in Shen Congwen’s works.It broadens the text writing content and artistic creation way in Shen Congwen’s literary works.The second chapter is the asymptotic and profound theme implication.The depth of the sea made Shen Congwen accept all kinds of painful life experiences.The revolutionary enthusiasm of Qingdao University aroused Shen’s deep feelings of family and country in his heart.Shen Congwen presented his thoughts on reality and his deep feelings of family and country in the text,which deepened the theme connotation of the work.The third chapter is the trend of “serenity” aesthetic style.The beautiful scenery of Qingdao made Shen Congwen form the aesthetic concept of “serenity”.Under the influence of the “Xin Yue fashion”,Shen Congwen presents his own aesthetic ideas through literart works,mainly in the characterization and artistic expression of the evolution.
