A Contrastive Study Of Metaphor Of Five Sense Organs In Chinese And English

People’s cognition of the world is from simple to complex,from concrete to abstract,and it is the law of people’s cognition to recognize unknown things through familiar things.And the most familiar with the human body itself,according to the position and function of human organs to refer to some of these features similar to the object domain,abstract domain and other fields.Human physiology structure and body experience are inevitably used by human to understand the objective world.Human metaphorical cognition is one of the basic ways of human cognition.Metaphor,as a linguistic phenomenon,is an important form of human expression.The way language is expressed reflects the cognitive way of thinking.Therefore,language,thinking and metaphor are inseparable.The essence of human body metaphor is to use human body domain to explain other conceptual domains.In this paper,the application of relevant knowledge of cognitive linguistics,in English "eyebrows,eyes,nose,mouth,ears," words and use these corpora were analyzed,and the analysis of Chinese English "eyebrows,eyes,nose,mouth,ears" metaphor of commonness and difference,to reveal the language phenomena are behind the cultural psychology of different nationalities as well as the reasons.This article mainly from "eyebrow,eye,nose,mouth,ear" five body parts to carry on the comparative study.This paper discusses the similarities and differences between "eyebrow,eye,nose,mouth,ear" metaphors in Chinese and English expressions from the aspects of object metaphor,space-time metaphor,functional metaphor and emotional metaphor.Through comparative analysis,it is concluded that there are similarities and differences between Chinese and English metaphors of human body.The main reason for the commonness is that Chinese and English share the same physiological basis and similar cognitive process--cognition,understanding and understanding the world through physical experience.The difference lies in the deep cultural imprints of human body metaphors used by different nations,which are mainly reflected in non-correspondence and vacancy.These differences are caused by different regional environments and ethnic cultures.
