Ian Mc Ewan is one of the best and most influential writers in contemporary Britain. In recent years,in addition to the field of literature,Mc Ewan has become more and more interested in the social hot topics. After long-term exploration and research in the field of artificial intelligence,Mc Ewan handed over a special answer, that is,the novel Machines Like Me--a work truly thinking about the plight of mankind in the future.By telling the story of how a machine named Adam constructed his subjectivity and tried to integrate into human society, this thesis discusses the ethical dilemma that mankind will face in the post-human era.Professor Braidotti believes that the subject of post human society mainly has three characteristics: the resolution of binary opposition, the operation mode of body machine and social ethics. The resolution of binary opposition refers to the disappearance of binary opposition such as human--non-human,subject--object and so on.In reality, things exist in the state of hybrid, and there is no absolute subject and object. The operation mode of body machine refers to how the nomadic subject operates,in what relationship and generation. The minimum definition of body machine is an embodied emotional and intellectual entity, which captures, processes and converts energy and power.Social ethics means that the post human subject interacts with the environment in the way of current practice, gives judgments and reactions to the actual and potential environment, and these judgments and reactions are fed back to the environment to produce deviation or correction.Braidotti’s post human subject theory has strong applicability to analyze the subjective construction of machines in the post human era.Based on the research results at home and abroad, this thesis analyzes the subjectivity construction of the machine Adam in post-human society from three aspects: the resolution of binary opposition between human and machines, self consciousness and social ethics.Firstly, the disappearance of binary opposition in the novel is shown by the resolution of binary opposition between human and machines, the physical boundary between human and machines is blurred or even broken.Because the appearance of human and machines is highly similar, the body boundary is blurred;Machines continue to expand and break their body boundaries, and even violate people’s original subject status.Secondly, the operation mode of body machine is shown in the novel that the machine has become an embodied emotional and intellectual entity. The machine has self-consciousness and begins to think about the significance of ontology; The continuous development of self-consciousness give birth to feelings. The machine begins to carry out literary creation and the study of human knowledge and civilization, which violates man’s original dominant position at the spiritual level. Finally, social ethics in the novel shows that machines need to deal with complex ethical events in human society.Adam’s response to Mark’s adoption and the false accusation against Miranda reflect that Adam can’t make a reasonable response to the complex ethical and legal problems of human society. The conflict between ethics and science leads to the failure of the machine’s construction in post human society.Today, with the rapid development of science and technology, the boundary between man and machines is becoming increasingly blurred, and the traditional humanistic subject has suffered a great crisis. In this work,Ian Mc Ewan really thinks about the future dilemma of mankind.Everything can be weeping, how human be human? This enlightens mankind on how to deal with itself in the future society. |
