This is an English-Chinese translation report,which takes Traitor’s Games(chapters 1-4)as the source text.This text is selected from the third novel in the Novak and Mitchell series,the masterpiece of the famous British thriller Andrew Raymond.The book’s storyline is gripping,with ups and downs,and tells the story of two journalists trying to find traitors lurking inside the government.The translator encounters many practical difficulties at three levels: lexical,syntax and discourse.This translation report describes the difficulties encountered in translation and the corresponding translation methods.The lexical difficulties include proper nouns and parts of speech,and the methods of annotation and conversion of parts of speech are adopted to solve the problems.The syntax difficulties include attributive clauses and long sentences,and the translator adopts the methods of division,combination and recasting.Discourse difficulties include scene description and dialogue translation,and the translator adopts free translation,amplification and omission methods.Through this translation practice,the translator’s translation ability has been exercised and improved.Given the limitations in the translation process,the translator realizes that a good translator needs rich knowledge reserves and a rigorous attitude.The translator also hopes that the translation can help domestic readers to understand foreign literary works in some way or other. |
