| The Thirty — Six Stratagems is a military book composed of ancient Chinese military strategy and rich struggle experience,it contains the rich spirit of Zhou Yi ’ s discernment and the strategic essence of Chinese traditional culture.The book has been translated into more than ten languages,including English,Italian,French and Russian.The Russian translation of the book “Трицать шесть стратегем”by the Russian sinologist Ma Liangwen was published and released in Russia in 2000.The Thirty—six Stratagems is a product of high—context culture.Its text is concise and comprehensive,but profound in meaning.A large part of the information contained is stored in the context closely connected with the local culture.Contextual culture is the language environment in intercultural communication studies,which includes both linguistic and non—linguistic elements.The analysis of the translation strategies and methods used in Russian translation from the perspective of context culture is helpful to further understand the interpretation degree of Russian translators’ context culture in translating Chinese classical military culture works,and then analyze the reasons and significance of their specific translation behavior and strategies.Specifically,this paper analyzes the problem of contextual cultural representation of the original text of The Thirty — Six Stratagems and its Russian translation from the perspective of the theory of high and low context culture,and summarizes the different translation strategies and methods used by the translator in translation.On the basis of extensive reading of the literature,the original text and Russian translation of the text are analyzed and compared to explore the rationality or improper of some problems in the translated text.In the introductory part of this paper,the significance of the selected topic,the status of domestic and international research on cultural context theory,the status of domestic and international research on high and low context cultural theory,and the status of research on the translation of“The Thirty—Six Stratagems”are explained,and the research method is explained.The text consists of three chapters.The chapter one expounds the basic viewpoints of contextual culture theory,sorts out the origin and development of high and low context culture theory,explains the main viewpoints of high context culture and low context culture,and analyzes the guiding role of contextual culture theory on translation.The chapter two analyzes the specific manifestations of contextual culture in the original text of The Thirty—Six Stratagems from two aspects,namely,the manifestations of high—context and low—context cultures.The chapter three discusses the translation methods and expressions used in the Russian translation of The Thirty — Six Stratagems from two perspectives.Guided by the theory of high and low context culture,a statistical analysis is made on the title of the book and the translation strategy and method of the text.It is believed that the translator mainly uses the corresponding imitation strategy and the reconstruction transformation strategy,and then explains the expression form of contextual culture in the translated text.The conclusion summarizes the research results of the Russian version of Thirty — six Strategies are summarized.Translators use different translation methods to supplement the high context cultural information in the original text.After the translation method,the translators use the corresponding imitation strategy.Through the guiding role of high and low context cultural theory in the translation of Thirty—six Strategies,the cultural context of source language is understood from multiple angles,in order to select a more suitable translation strategy to reproduce the meaning potential of source text.According to the understanding of the translated context,the translator explains the implied context of the original text by means of filling,effectively reproduces the rhetorical style of the original text,conveys the idea of the source Chinese language,and makes the source language culture effectively spread between different contexts. |
