A Study On Zigong Chamber Of Commerce（1929-1939）

Zigong,an inland city with a long history,is also a typical resource-based city.Due to salt industry,it has developed into a town and a city.It can be said that salt has affected everything in this city.Therefore,most studies on Zigong involve the salt industry,while attention on other aspects is far from enough.The birth of Zigong Chamber of Commerce in this "salty" city has played a positive role in promoting the establishment of Zigong city,but previous researchers rarely paid attention to this point,which left sufficient space for the research of this paper.For a long time after the Revolution of 1911,Zigong region was in a state of warlords,which provided conditions for Zigong Chamber of Commerce to show its skills.Even after the unification of Sichuan government,Zigong Chamber of Commerce could still play an important role in social welfare.In the mid-19th century,Fu Rong Salt Farm became the largest handicraft workshop in China,giving birth to many salt trade associations with distinctive characteristics and social influence.This profound social foundation enabled Zigong Chamber of Commerce to be established successively in early 1911,following the provincial Chamber of Commerce.In 1909,Chengdu established the General Chamber of Commerce;In March 1911,Sichuan Tong Sheng Chamber of Commerce Association was founded,and Zigong Commerce Branch was also founded.In July1915,according to the "Law of Chambers of Commerce" issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce of the National Government,Zigong Chamber of Commerce was renamed Zigong Chamber of Commerce.In April 1929,the Zigong Chamber of Commerce was reorganized according to the outline of the reorganization of the Chamber of Commerce issued by the All-China Federation of Commerce.The restructured trade associations have the characteristics of corporate societies,and they are relatively independent in terms of organization,property and social qualifications.Compared with other regional chambers of commerce,Zigong Chamber of Commerce has more characteristics.Firstly,it is born in Zigong region,which is rich in salt industry resources,so it also appears "full of salt flavor".In terms of the composition of the chamber of Commerce,most members of the chamber of Commerce are salt magnates with rich financial resources and high social prestige.On the other hand,due to the development of the salt industry,Zigong has gathered a large number of industries serving the salt industry,which together with the salt industry constitute the commercial society of Zigong.Secondly,Zigong city chamber of commerce in the chamber of commerce is not like Shanghai,Chongqing,open degree is high,with a conservative,because merchants mainly salt merchants of Zigong,the salt industry investment is a kind of investment risk is extremely high,in order to reduce risk,these businessmen tend to put the money to buy the land,to some extent,limits the further development of business,But it also plays an important role in the stability of salt industry economic development.The establishment of Zigong city by Zigong Chamber of Commerce is reflected in economic,political and social aspects.In terms of economy,Zigong Chamber of Commerce has played a very important role in dealing with salt industry disputes and industrial disputes,maintaining a stable market order and making Zigong regional economy present a relatively stable development trend.Politically,Zigong Chamber of Commerce is more like an active participant in political activities.Whether in the election of representatives of Zigong National Assembly or in the activities organized by Zigong New Life Movement Promotion Association,Zigong Chamber of Commerce takes an active part and takes the initiative to cooperate.Socially,Zigong Chamber of Commerce has played an active role in infrastructure construction,social relief,social education and social culture,laying a foundation for the development of local social undertakings in Zigong.
