Natural History·Pastoral·Ecology:Reflections On The Study Of American Nature Writing

In the 19 th century,Western literature circles have begun to pay attention to the natural thoughts in American literature,and in the 1960 s,the contemporary Ecological Criticism Movement in the United States,with Lawrence Buell’s slogan of "devoting himself to environmental practice",became the beginning of foreign American nature writing research.China’s attention to American nature writing is a little later,until the mid-1990 s,China began to introduced and studied this literary genre,after nearly two decades of development has become a vein that cannot be ignored in domestic contemporary literary research.Under such circumstances,this article is based on both research at home and abroad,take the domes research as the object,through the collection and perusal of literature,sort out and summarize the current domestic research,and reflect on the shortcomings and shortcomings of domestic research.Combined with comparative studies and interdisciplinary approaches,it explores new possibilities for domestic American nature writing research.There are five parts of this paper:The introduction part mainly expounds the research object,research significance,and research ideas and methods of the paper.As the first article that takes domestic American nature writing research as the research object,the difficulty of this thesis is to explore new academic possibilities of domestic research on the basis of existing research.The main content of the first chapter is to explore the research and literary foundation of American nature writing research in China.The development of the domestic environmental protection movement and the enhancement of public awareness of environmental protection provide the social and cultural background for domestic research.The research has laid the theoretical foundation of literature.The second chapter inspects the development status of American nature writing research in the mainland.This paper first divides the development process of domestic research into three stages vertically,and the current domestic research is in the deepening stage.Then,it makes a specific analysis of the research status from a horizontal perspective,reiterates the outstanding contributions made by Professor Cheng Hong in the research of American nature writing,and grasps the current main research angles from several aspects such as ecocriticism and aesthetic research.The third chapter will trace the source of American nature writing,and look forward to the trend of future ecological criticism.From the three dimensions of the natural history,pastoralism,ecocriticism to explore the expansion of American nature writing research.Finally,it points out the difficulties faced by domestic research.The third chapter traces the origin of American nature writing,and argues that naturalistic writing and pastoralism,as the textual basis and ideological origin of American nature writing have not received due attention in domestic research,and look forward to the future development trend of ecocriticism.Point out the possibility of domestic practice of material ecocriticism in the context of the Anthropocene.In the conclusion part,the author tries to put forward some reasonable suggestions for domestic American nature writing research,such as expanding the scope of text research,diversifying research perspectives,and paying attention to the literary nature of American natural literature itself.This author believes that the American nature writing research in the mainland can excavate and deepen from the three directions of natural history,pastoralism,and ecocriticism.It is not only conducive to improve the level in this research area,but also domestic natural history,idyllic literature,and the development of ecoriticism has a boosting effect.
