The calligraphy on eaves tiles is the finishing touch of ancient architecture.There are three reasons about the formation of decorative beauty of the calligraphy on eaves tiles in the Han Dynasty: at first,there is a natural and close relationship between the calligraphy on eaves tiles and architectures,so that the text content on the eaves tiles can identify and distinguish the names and the grades of the buildings,and its calligraphy style is also suitable for the features of the architectures;Secondly,the calligraphy on eaves tiles is written by calligraphers on soft clay,and then copied and fired by craftsmen,in other words,it needs writing and making,whose process of writing firstly and making secondly contributed to the emergence of decorative beauty;Finally,the content written on the eaves tiles includes building’s name,the logos of surname,memorabilia and auspicious language,which expresses the profound connotations of strengthening the rule of kingship,maintaining etiquette order and promoting auspicious expectation,which called for the emergence of decorative beauty on the the ideological level.The decorative beauty of the calligraphy on eaves tiles in the Han Dynasty is reflected in three aspects:first,the changeable shapes and systems of the surface.The circular or semi-circular surface is divided by various boundary grids,patterns,images and patterns,which not only divided different spatial forms for the expression of calligraphy forms,but also added the interest of eaves tiles;Secondly,the calligraphy on eaves tiles pursued the aesthetic tastes of "round" and "full",and carried out artistic creation with this structure,which contained distinctive characteristics of the times and decorative beauty effects;Third,on the selection of calligraphy style,in the Han Dynasty,the calligraphy on eaves tiles mainly focused on the seal script with strong image meanings,as well as the popular official script at that time,and also used the bird insect seal script and "Mou zhuan" with much decorative effect.Under the requirement of decorative beauty,the calligraphy on eaves tiles of the Han Dynasty arranged characters by natural placement and following the shape and position;in order to make the characters better adapt to the surface of eaves tiles,the calligraphy on eaves tiles used three ways to adjust and change the shape of the calligraphy,and finally realized the effects of decorative beauty.In a word,the calligraphy on eaves tiles shows the vigorous and grand flourishing age of the Han Dynasty,as well as the magnificent and romantic artistic style.Up to now,the decorative beauty of the calligraphy on eaves tiles is still impressive.
