The E-C Translation Of Translation And Practice Theory （Chapter 1-2） And A Report On The Translation

This thesis consists of a translation practice of Translation and Practice Theory and a translation practice report on problems encountered in this translation practice.And the translation material,written by Maeve Olohan,is published by Routledge Taylor ＆ Francis Group.The first two chapters are selected as the translation material,and it contains 14380 words.The first chapter mainly traces the broad lines of the two paradigms that dominated translation studies for many decades,and the second chapter introduces practice theory as a conceptual approach for understanding social action as practice.There is no translation of the source text until the completion of this thesis.Venuti’s domesticating and foreignizing translation strategy are selected to guide this translation.Domesticating translation is applied as the leading strategy and foreignizing translation strategy is used as the complementary in order to reduce misunderstanding of target readers and expand the foreign knowledge.At the sentence level,sentence reorganization and division etc.has been used to complete the translation of long and complex sentence.The application of domesticating and foreignizing realizes smooth translation,and also strengthens the logic of translation.The report contains five parts;the first part is the introduction to the source text and the author,along with the reason and significance of the source text selection.The second part is the translation process,which contains pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third part makes an introduction to the translation strategy used to guide the translation practice,including the author’s understanding of the selected translation strategy.The fourth part describes the problems encountered in the translation,and how to solve these problems through some translation skills,mainly amplification,splitting and combining etc.The fifth part is the conclusion,containing reflection on the current study as well as the limitation of the translation.Through this translation practice,the translator hopes to improve personal translation ability,and help more students who learn about translation to understand the interpretation of practice theory on translation practices.
