In the Eastern Jin Dynasty,Gu Kai-zhi’s "placement and layout";in the Southern Dynasty,Xie He’s "six methods","management of position",and in Chinese painting theories,"chapter method " or "layout" in Chinese painting theory,all point to the sense of composition of the picture.Composition is the conscious use of points,lines,surfaces and other geometric shapes to divide the picture and turn it into the form of a meaningful formal language.The classical work in traditional Chinese painting is all exemplary work of composition,on the composition and layout of the picture to the details of the work,which has been repeatedly refined to create the artistic treasures that have been adopted down to this day.The use of compositional elements in Chinese brushwork figure painting has not only enriched the expression methods and design forms of brushwork figure painting,but also revealed the openness of the formal language of brush and ink in the creation of Chinese brushwork figure painting to follow the times.Only on the basis of inheriting the tradition,while constantly absorbing and borrowing the diverse composition forms from classical works of different art forms and art languages,can we create excellent works of the times and nationalities by combining the essence of diverse cultures on the basis of our own excellent traditions.This paper compares the compositional consciousness in traditional Chinese brushwork figure painting from the perspective of the compositional relationship of traditional painting.With the example of Zhang Xuan’s "Pounding the Practice" of the Tang Dynasty,it briefly outlines the historical background of this classic masterpiece,analyzes the clever use of the three elements of composition in "Pounding the Practice",and reveals the importance of studying the composition of the picture in contemporary brushwork figure painting.The study and analysis of composition in traditional Chinese brushwork figure painting aims to inherit and promote traditional Chinese culture in a multi-dimensional and multi-perspective manner,and to deliver nutrients for promoting the ongoing development of Chinese brushwork figure painting. |
