| The memoirs written by ordinary people are becoming popular in the literary market today.Memoirs written by celebrities have their natural advantages, but those written by ordinary people need to borrow narrative techniques from novels to maximize their appeal to readers.Narratology has expanded its research scope by including non-fiction works and has started to move its focus from text to cultural context since the 1980 s.This thesis takes the Chinese translation of Wait for God to Notice(Excerpts)as a case study.Guided by the theory of narratology, the translator analyzes the necessity of precisely recognizing the transference of narrative focalizations, the need to abide by the narrative times arrangements, the importance of narrative discourses in revealing characters’ personalities, and the value of annotation in helping the target language readers better understand the original work.Relevant translation strategies and techniques are used to convey the aesthetic beauty and intention of the memoir. |
