The main research object of this paper is Xu Xi’s painting of snow bamboo. As one of Xu Xi’s few handed down works, its style is also unique and rare in the history of Chinese painting. The author reverses the bottom of the picture and sets off the object image with ink as the background, changing the halo dyeing of the traditional double hook ink pen. This technique is not only pioneered by Xu Xi,but also rare in the works of painters of all dynasties in the future. This paper will study the expression of freehand brushwork in the painting of snow bamboo from the aspects of composition, modeling and pen use,and finally apply it to its own creation, pursuing its carefree brushwork, not seeking shape similarity, falling ink as style, slightly applying light color, relaxed, ethereal and non-standard charm.
