Study On Liu Shouxiang’s Watercolor Landscape Art Language

As one of the outstanding painters in the history of Chinese contemporary watercolor painting,Liu Shouxiang has made many artistic achievements.He plays an important role in Hubei watercolor and plays a promoting role in Chinese contemporary watercolor education.It not only trained a large number of Watercolor Painters,but also had a certain artistic value and influence on the future watercolor education in China.Liu Shouxiang is an accomplished contemporary watercolor painter and an excellent watercolor teacher.Born in college,he has the rigorous modeling ability of "academic school" and Chinese traditional humanistic quality.In painting,he is committed to continuous innovation and bold breakthrough and explore his own watercolor language all his life.Its watercolor language combines Chinese and foreign cultures,combines with traditional ink painting in artistic conception,and absorbs Chu and Han culture;Combining with western modern painting in form,the color is strong and bold;The technique is not rigidly stick to the mud and constantly push through the old and bring forth the new.The special way of painting shows the consistency between subjective and objective,and has formed a unique watercolor language.Its watercolor landscape painting has rich artistic language and takes form and artistic conception as beauty.It permeates the artistic characteristics of tranquility,elegance,richness and simplicity.Watercolor landscape works are calm,broad and far-reaching,and often know a little.The theme of landscape can express Liu Shouxiang’s love and yearning for natural landscape and cultural landscape,which focuses on the selection of scenes and the application of colors.Through watercolor language,the conventional natural landscape is interpreted into different visual experiences,with two different artistic forms of thick and fresh colors.This paper will take the artistic language of Liu Shouxiang’s watercolor landscape painting as the starting point to study and discuss it in many aspects.The first chapter briefly discusses Liu Shouxiang’s life course and the factors of the formation of artistic language.Firstly,it summarizes his life and artistic course by dividing it by time line;Secondly,it expounds the reasons affecting the formation of Liu Shouxiang’s artistic language from three aspects:historical background,Chu culture and watercolor predecessors.The second chapter mainly gives an overall overview of Liu Shouxiang’s watercolor landscape painting,focusing on color,and briefly summarizes the three themes of water town,Europe and northwest.The third chapter focuses on the analysis and demonstration of artistic language from three aspects:the use of heavy color,modeling characteristics and composition form.The fourth chapter describes Liu Shouxiang’s innovation in watercolor painting,which is presented from two aspects: painting steps and the use of comprehensive materials.The last chapter summarizes Liu Shouxiang’s influence on the development of contemporary Chinese watercolor.Liu Shouxiang’s achievements are attributed to his hard work and lifelong persistence.His artistic style has affected batch after batch of watercolor researchers.His solid modeling foundation and nostalgic watercolor landscape works are worthy of learning and reference by scholars.
