Research On Arikha’s Figurative Expressionism

Arikha’s painting art is not a fix one,but changes from abstraction in the early stage to figuration in the later stage.This transformation stemmed from his thinking about painting and self-examination.This paper mainly studies on the artistic characteristics and value of Arikha’s figurative expressionism.He draws materials from daily life from a unique perspective,and reveals the meaning contained in ordinary things with intuitive feelings.His painting art is ingenious in painting language and viewing methods,which are closely related to his early experience.This article starts with Arikha’s growth experience and the change of painting style,analyzes his figurative expression painting and artistic value,and ends with the author’s creative process and experience,which organizes the whole text.The main research method of this paper is the literature method,and the theoretical foundation of this paper is established by studying the relevant literature.The research process is as follows: firstly,analyzes the figurative expressionism of Arikha;secondly,explains the reason why Arikha turned from abstract painting to figurative painting and the uniqueness of the painting language in the figurative expression works;finally,talks about the influence of Arikha on the author’s painting creation.The article is divided into three chapters: the first chapter briefly describes the artistic process of Arikha through the growth experience of Arikha and the change of his painting language.The first part of the second chapter analyzes Arikha’s figurative painting in depth from four aspects of subject matter,composition,color and brushstroke,and explores the artistic value of the work;the latter part describes the influence of its artistic value on Chinese art.The third chapter,combined with the author’s creative notes,expounds the inspiration of the author’s research on Arikha’s figurative expressionism to the author’s watercolor creation.
