Nature has always been an artist’s favorite theme.It is not only the cornerstone of human social development but also the source of artists’ creation.By the 18 th century,natural mapping was known as natural history and began to be formally classified as a science.In the process of human recording the unknown world and feeling the nature,natural history knowledge is reproduced and sorted out in the form of artistic painting.Popular science illustration restores the real face of nature by virtue of the unity of science and art and the combination of rationality and sensibility.In this paper,life images in natural atlas are taken as the research object.Firstly,the development of Chinese and western atlas in visual art is analyzed,and the scientific and artistic,social and humanistic values of popular science illustrations are discussed.Then,on the theory of image science research methods from the natural life image of the shape,color,visual art language and the metaphor of life such as these two aspects carries on the deep interpretation,thus seeking life hidden behind the image of the metaphor world,reveals the connection of nature and human feelings,but also achieve the purpose of inheritance and development of the natural history of art;Then use the paintings of flowers and plants by three artists as case studies to explore the connection between nature and human spirit.Finally,I will focus on my personal experimental creation,integrate my own ideas and emotions with the illustrations of natural history,and use watercolor materials as the media to show my definition of natural life images and personal emotional interpretation,so as to explore various connections between human beings and nature and give nature new meaning and value.
