This paper takes the paintings of Marlene Dumas as the starting point to explore the way of constructing visual metaphors and their profound connotations.Visual metaphors can be found everywhere in paintings, and they can be presented in two ways: the subject matter of the painting and the formal language of the painting. In contrast to language, paintings are indirect in nature, and the real intention of the artist behind the painting is always hidden.Through the study of visual metaphors,we can understand the real purpose of the artist’s creation and the profound connotation of his paintings, which can also play a certain role in guiding and inspiring the author’s painting creation. |
