| After the key competencies of English subject was put forward,the cultivation of students’ thinking quality has become an important task of English teaching.English curriculum standard for general senior high school(2017)puts forward the view of English learning activities,thus the activity design of English reading class has become an important form of cultivating students’ thinking quality.According to the view of English learning activities,English curriculum activities are divided into three types: learning and comprehension,application and practice,transfer and innovation.Many scholars at home and abroad have studied thinking quality in various aspects.However,they fail to analyze the cultivation of thinking quality from the perspective of the three types of activities proposed by the view of English learning activities.This study observed and transcribed eight reading classes of the11 th high school English exemplary courses.According to the three kinds of activities proposed by the view of English learning activities,this study analyzes the activities designed in the exemplary courses,and analyzes the cultivation of senior high school students’ thinking quality from the view of English learning activities.The purpose of this study is to explore how to effectively cultivate the thinking quality of senior high school students through activities.This study mainly discusses the following three research questions:1.What kind of activities of learning and understanding,application and practice,transfer and innovation are designed in exemplary reading classes?2.What’s the distribution frequency of each type activity in exemplary reading classes?3.What kind of students’ thinking quality have been cultivated by these activities?The research found that:(1)firstly,the activities of learning and understanding designed in exemplary reading classes include watching pictures or videos,listening to recordings,predicting,paragraph sorting,filling in the blank,filling in forms,drawing,answering questions and so on.Secondly,the activities of application and practice include reasoning about the feelings and attitudes of the protagonist or author,judging right and wrong,role playing and interview.Finally,the activities of transfer and innovation include talking about problem solutions and expressing views and opinions.(2)The proportion of learning and understanding activities is the highest,reaching 64.5%.Secondly,the proportion of application and practice activities accounts for 22.5% of the total activities.Finally,the proportion of transfer and innovation activities only accounts for 14.5% of the total.(3)By raising open-ended questions and allowing students to freely express their views and attitudes in group discussions,students’ critical thinking quality is cultivated.Through the activities of sorting paragraphs or finding the timeline of articles,students’ logical thinking quality is cultivated.By asking the students brainstorm or ask for solutions to problems,innovative thinking quality is cultivated.Based on the above conclusions,this study suggests that senior high school teachers should increase the proportion of transfer and innovative activities to cultivate students’ high-order thinking ability;In the process of teaching design and implementation,teachers should appropriately extend and expand the textbook problems to divergent students’ thinking;The forms of teaching activities should be as rich as possible to achieve the purpose of comprehensively cultivating students’ thinking quality. |
