Responsive Discourse Markers“Zhe Hua Shuo De”:An Interactional Perspective

With the theoretical guidance of conversational analysis and stance triangulation,the paper examines the responsive discourse marker "zhe hua shuo de" based on the interactive perspective and spoken corpus.On the basis of clarifying the nature of the discourse marker "zhe hua shuo de",we analyze its discourse performance and reveal the formation motive and evolutionary mechanism.The phrase "zhe hua shuo de" can be defined in four aspects: relative independence of rhyme,syntactic separability,semantic procedural and functional meta-syntactic,and there are two variants of "ni zhe hua shuo de" and "qiao（kan）ni zhe hua shuo de" in spoken language.In terms of discourse position distribution,it can be at the beginning,middle,end and independent of the discourse wheel;in terms of sequence position,it can be in the initiating sequence,answering sequence and ending sequence.From the perspective of interactive stance expressions,"zhe hua shuo de" can be divided into two categories,according to the level of affirmation consistent stance is divided into three sub-categories of approval and agreement,recognition and acceptance,and awareness and understanding;according to the strength of antagonism,separate stance is divided into three sub-categories of rebuke and blame,opposition and rebuttal,and pursuit and questioning;the construction of "zhe hua shuo de" is influenced by two major factors: under the influence of contextual factors,the verbal context has a suggestive effect on the construction of stance,while the situational context constructs stance according to the appropriateness of the discourse and the situation;under the role of the communicative subject,the interpersonal relationship,emotional response and cognitive status of both parties affect the construction of discourse stance.In addition,"zhe hua shuo de" has three major discourse marker functions in natural speech: first,discourse organization,which is used to mark response and coherence;second,interpersonal interaction,which is used to make explicit the speaker’s position and construct the speaker’s identity;and third,metadiscourse,which is used to elicit the speaker’s attitude and highlight the stated proposition.The interactive subjectivity of linguistic expressions,the interactivity of language and the high use of natural spoken language are the main reasons for the discourse marking function of "zhe hua shuo de".The construction "zhe hua shuo de" gradually becomes more effective and subjective by absorbing the preceding and following discourse contexts and structural reduction,and eventually evolves into a Chinese discourse marker.
