Since Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize for Literature, there has been a wave of research on his literary works at home and abroad. As Mo Yan is an excellent representative of Chinese local writers, introducing his works to foreign readers plays an important role in implementing the strategy of Chinese Culture “Going Global”.The existing translated works of Mo Yan are mainly novels, and the translation of interviews about him is vacant. As one of Mo Yan’s in-depth interview transcripts, the source text of this translation practice “Behind the Literature”(An excerpt from Mo Yan: New Interview)can help foreign readers know more about Mo Yan’s story and his creative inspiration. This translation practice report is organized as follows: Firstly, the features of the source text are analyzed.Secondly, the translation difficulties are listed from three aspects—culture-loaded terms and appellations are the main difficulties at the lexical level.Sentences with multiple subjects and Chinese run-on sentences are the major difficulties at the syntactic level.Implicit coherence and shared background knowledge are the main difficulties at the textual level. Then, this report summarizes the corresponding translation techniques: Firstly, free translation, literal translation, paraphrasing, and annotation are applied at the lexical level.Secondly, identifying the subject and reorganizing the sentence are adopted at the syntactic level.Thirdly, manifesting the coherence and briefly adding shared background knowledge are used at the textual level. At last, the implications and limitations of this report are concluded. To sum up,this translation practice report is hoped to provide some practical translation techniques for the C-E translation of interview transcripts.
