Hundred years’ policy based on education,while the education policy based on teachers.The new curriculum reform of basic education has entered the stage of full implementation,which poses severe challenges to teacher education,and it is imperative to improve teacher professional development.In-service teacher training is an important way to promote teacher professional development,and it is also an important part of teacher education.As everyone knows,all primary and secondary schools have to set up English subject,and junior middle school English is a key stage for students to learn English.This puts forward higher requirements for the professional quality of junior middle school English teachers.Therefore,the in-service training of junior middle school English teachers has become a topic that cannot be ignored in teacher education.The research takes teacher professional development as the main theoretical basis,adopts the method of combining quantitative research and qualitative research,selects 109 in-service English teachers in four junior middle schools in H city as the research participants to conduct a questionnaire survey,and conducts in-depth interviews on 4 English teachers among them.The study was implemented to address three research questions: 1.What are the current situation and needs of the inservice training for junior middle school English teachers? 2.What are the problems for the in-service training of junior middle school English teachers? 3.What are the reasons that cause the problems for the in-service training of junior middle school English teachers?The research results show that: 1.The in-service training of junior middle school English teachers in H city has achieved certain results,but there are still significant differences in the current situation and needs of in-service teacher training in six dimensions: training level,training time,training content,training form,training teacher,and training assessment.2.At present,the main problems of in-service training of junior middle school English teachers are: unbalanced training opportunities,relatively simple training forms,relatively theoretical training content,insufficient training funding,unreasonable training time,immature training supervision and weak training teachers.3.The research analyzes the reasons of the above problems from five perspectives: English subject,junior middle school English teacher,school,training organization,and education department.At last,the study puts forward targeted suggestions to promote the development of in-service training of junior middle school English teachers from four aspects: English teacher,school,training organization,and education department.Firstly,English teachers in junior middle school should raise the awareness of the importance of in-service training for teachers.Secondly,schools should guide teachers to actively participate in training,and solve the contradiction between teaching and training for teachers.Thirdly,the training organizations should conduct a needs survey on junior middle school English teachers before training,and provide training as needed.Finally,the education department should strengthen the overall planning,formulate a plan in line with the local reality of junior middle school English teaching and the development law of junior middle school English teachers,so as to promote the sustainable development of in-service training for junior middle school English teachers.
