As the great Hungarian piano musician, folklorist and nationalist composer of the 20 th century,Bartók’s musical style is unique,he can discover creative elements from folk customs, and integrate his artistic style,so that folk tunes can be blended with Western classical and modern composition techniques. Many of his works deal with national characteristics. One of Bartók’s most important works,Bartók’s piano suite consists of six smaller pieces, which Bartók innovated and pioneered in many ways, such as a new exploration of timbre, melody, harmony and rhythm.Through the collation of folk songs, this work is full of strong folk atmosphere and has a distinct national character,it is a reflection of the times, can let the audience deeply feel the background of the era in which they live, and has important research value. This article examines Bartók’s Six Romanian Folk Dances, using the "national elements" in it as a research perspective, and attempts to discuss the work from three chapters. The first chapter introduces Bartók’s artistic career and piano suite "Six Romanian Folk Dances";the second chapter provides a musical analysis of the works from three aspects: the performance of folk life, the absorption of ethnic folk tones and harmonies, and the use of folk dance rhythms;the third chapter conducts a detailed analysis of the main points of the performance of six small pieces.Through the discussion of this article,I hope to interpret Bartók’s national folk music ideas and playing techniques at a deeper level, understand the spiritual connotation of Bartók’s creation and the national culture he w ants to express,so as to better play Bartók’s works in the future.
